Minus enemy resistance is not a universal minion damage boost in Diablo 2 Resurrected. That is the trap. Some summon-like skills gain huge value from facets, Griffon's Eye, and other -enemy resistance gear. Most traditional summons do not.
The short version: Hydras and Assassin traps benefit. Most actual summons do not.
If you are gearing a summoner, this distinction saves you expensive mistakes.

↖ Does Minus Enemy Resistance Help Minions in D2R?
Usually, no.
Gear-based -enemy resistance only works when the game treats the damage as tied to your character.
That includes some skills that look like minions but do not behave like normal summons.
↖ Quick Tested Results
| Skill / Summon | Sunder Charm Works? | Gear-Based Minus Res Works? | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sorceress Hydra | Yes | Yes | Strong scaling |
| Assassin Fire Traps | Yes | Yes | Strong scaling |
| Assassin Lightning Traps | Yes | Yes | Strong scaling |
| Druid Cold Wolves | Yes | No | Sunder only |
| Necromancer Fire Golem | Yes | Mostly no | Poor facet value |
| Warlock Tainted Summons | Yes | No | Sunder only |
| Skeleton Mages | Likely yes | No meaningful value | Not worth building around |
| Valkyrie / Decoy | Not relevant | No | Mostly utility |
| Shadow Master / Warrior | Not practical | No clear value | Ignore for minus-res gearing |
The real rule:
Sunder Charms can let minions damage immune monsters. Your gear's -enemy resistance usually does not carry over to traditional summons.

↖ What Counts as Gear-Based Minus Enemy Resistance?
We are talking about stats on your character's gear.
| Source | Example Modifier |
|---|---|
| Rainbow Facet | -3% to -5% Enemy Fire/Cold/Lightning/Poison Resistance |
| Griffon's Eye | -15% to -20% Enemy Lightning Resistance |
| Death's Web | -40% to -50% Enemy Poison Resistance |
| Obedience | -25% Enemy Fire Resistance |
| Faceted armor / shield / weapon | Stacked -enemy resistance |
This is different from monster debuffs.
↖ Not the Same as Lower Resist or Conviction
| Mechanic | Type | Helps Minions? |
|---|---|---|
| Lower Resist | Curse on enemy | Yes |
| Conviction | Aura on enemy | Yes |
| Sunder Charm | Breaks immunity | Yes |
| Gear -enemy res | Player stat | Only for some skills |
This is where many players get baited.
If Lower Resist or Conviction lowers the monster's resistance, your summons can benefit because the enemy itself is weakened.
If your helmet has a facet, that bonus usually belongs to you, not your wolf, golem, skeleton, or Tainted summon.
↖ How Sunder Charms Actually Work with Minions
A Sunder Charm breaks immunity and usually sets the monster's resistance to 95%.
That means the monster is no longer immune, but it is still extremely resistant.
| Situation | Monster Resistance Result |
|---|---|
| Fire immune monster | 100%+ fire resistance |
| After Fire Sunder Charm | 95% fire resistance |
| After Sunder + valid minus fire res | Much lower |
| After Sunder + invalid minion interaction | Still effectively 95% |
This is why testing can fool you.
If your minion starts damaging an immune monster after Sunder, that only proves Sunder works.
It does not prove your facets or Griffon's Eye are helping.
The clean test is simple:
1. Hit an immune monster with no Sunder.
2. Add the matching Sunder Charm.
3. Add heavy -enemy resistance gear.
4. Watch whether kill speed explodes.
If damage barely changes after step 3, the minion is not using your gear's minus resistance.
↖ Hydra Sorceress: Minus Fire Resistance Works
Hydra benefits from gear-based -enemy fire resistance.
This is one of the biggest exceptions. Hydra may look like a minion, but in D2R it scales with player-side fire resistance reduction.
↖ Hydra Test Result
| Setup | Result |
|---|---|
| No Sunder, no -fire res | Fire immune takes no damage |
| Fire Sunder only | Hydra deals tiny damage |
| Fire Sunder + stacked -fire res | Monster dies fast |
This is the exact behavior you want to see.
↖ What to Use on Hydra Sorceress
Good damage stats:
- +Fire Skills
- -Enemy Fire Resistance
- Rainbow Facets
- Fire Sunder Charm
- Fire damage support gear
If your Hydras tickle sundered fire immunes, you are hitting into 95% fire resistance. Add valid -enemy fire resistance, and the damage jump is obvious.
Result: Facets are worth it for Hydra.
↖ Assassin Traps: Minus Resistance Works in D2R
Assassin traps benefit from player gear-based -enemy resistance in Diablo 2 Resurrected.
This includes both fire and lightning trap setups.
↖ Fire Trap Test: Wake of Fire
| Setup | Result |
|---|---|
| No Fire Sunder | Immune monsters take no damage |
| Fire Sunder only | Low damage |
| Fire Sunder + -enemy fire res | Monsters melt |
↖ Lightning Trap Implication
For lightning traps, this makes Griffon's Eye and lightning facets extremely valuable.
Strong trap stats:
- +Trap Skills
- -Enemy Lightning Resistance
- -Enemy Fire Resistance for fire traps
- Griffon's Eye
- Rainbow Facets
- Sunder Charm
- Infinity / Conviction as separate support
This is one of the most important D2R-specific changes to understand. Old Diablo II logic can mislead you here.
Result: Minus resistance gear is excellent for Trap Assassin.
↖ Druid Cold Wolves: Sunder Works, Facets Do Not
Druid cold wolves can damage cold immunes after a Cold Sunder Charm, but your -enemy cold resistance gear does not appear to boost their damage.
↖ Cold Wolf Test Result
| Setup | Result |
|---|---|
| No Cold Sunder | No cold damage to immune monster |
| Cold Sunder only | Very low damage |
| Cold Sunder + -cold res gear | No major improvement |
This means the wolves can attack the monster once immunity is broken, but they are still effectively fighting through 95% cold resistance.
↖ What to Build Instead
For Druid summoners, prioritize:
- +Summoning Skills
- Summon synergies
- Mercenary damage
- Auras
- Monster debuffs
- Survival and uptime
Do not burn premium gear slots on cold facets expecting wolves to carry sundered cold immunes.
Result: Sunder helps. Facets are a trap for wolf damage.
↖ Necromancer Fire Golem: Poor Value from Minus Fire Resistance
Fire Golem is messy because it can show small damage even when monsters are fire immune. That may come from direct hit damage or another non-obvious component.
The important part: gear-based -enemy fire resistance does not appear to meaningfully boost Fire Golem aura damage.
↖ Fire Golem Test Result
| Setup | Result |
|---|---|
| No Fire Sunder | Tiny damage may appear on direct hits |
| Fire Sunder only | Fire damage becomes visible |
| Fire Sunder + -fire res gear | No major aura damage increase |
If heavy minus fire resistance were applying, the aura pulse would spike hard. It does not.
↖ Better Necromancer Priorities
Use:
- Raise Skeleton
- Skeleton Mastery
- Corpse Explosion
- Amplify Damage
- Lower Resist for elemental setups
- Mercenary damage
- Aura support
Result: Do not facet your gear for Fire Golem damage.
↖ Warlock Tainted Summons: Sunder Only
Warlock Tainted summons deal fire damage, so they are a clean test for -enemy fire resistance.
The result is simple: Sunder works. Player gear minus fire resistance does not appear to transfer.
↖ Tainted Summon Test Result
| Setup | Result |
|---|---|
| No Fire Sunder | Fire immune takes no damage |
| Fire Sunder only | Tainted summons deal low damage |
| Fire Sunder + -fire res gear | No clear damage gain |
Each projectile looks roughly the same after adding heavy minus fire resistance. That is the giveaway.
↖ Better Warlock Summon Priorities
Use:
- +Summon Skills
- Skill synergies
- External resistance reduction
- Aura support
- Summon uptime
- Defensive layers
Result: Do not stack facets for Tainted summon damage unless another part of your build uses them.
↖ Best Rule for Gearing: Who Owns the Damage?
Ask one question:
Is the damage treated as yours, or as the summon's?
| Damage Source | Gear-Based Minus Res? | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Player-cast spell | Yes | Fire Ball, Blizzard, Lightning |
| Player-linked summon-like skill | Yes | Hydra, Assassin traps |
| Traditional summon | Usually no | Wolves, golems, skeletons |
| Enemy debuff | Yes for everyone hitting it | Lower Resist, Conviction |
| Sunder Charm | Breaks immunity only | All matching damage types |
This is the whole mechanic in one line:
Sunder opens the door. Only some skills let your gear's minus resistance walk through it.
↖ Gear Recommendations by Build
| Build | Use Gear-Based Minus Res? | Best Use |
|---|---|---|
| Hydra Sorceress | Yes | Fire Sunder + facets |
| Fire Trap Assassin | Yes | Wake of Fire scaling |
| Lightning Trap Assassin | Yes | Griffon's Eye + facets |
| Druid Summoner | No | Use +skills and support |
| Necromancer Summoner | No | Use curses, CE, merc |
| Fire Golem Setup | No | Use Lower Resist / support |
| Warlock Tainted Summoner | No | Use summon scaling |
↖ If You Play Hydra Sorc
Stack:
- +Fire Skills
- -Enemy Fire Resistance
- Fire Sunder Charm
- Rainbow Facets
Expected result: sundered fire immunes die much faster.
↖ If You Play Trap Assassin
Stack:
- +Trap Skills
- Griffon's Eye for lightning
- Rainbow Facets
- Matching Sunder Charm
- Infinity if available
Expected result: traps shred sundered enemies instead of tickling them.
↖ If You Play a Traditional Summoner
Skip personal minus-res stacking for summon damage.
Use:
- +Skills
- Curses
- Conviction
- Mercenary damage
- Aura gear
- Corpse Explosion where available
Expected result: better real clear speed, less wasted gear value.
↖ Fast Testing Method
Use this whenever you are unsure.
| Step | Action | What It Shows |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Find a monster immune to your damage type | Baseline |
| 2 | Attack without Sunder | Confirms immunity |
| 3 | Add matching Sunder Charm | Tests immunity break |
| 4 | Add heavy -enemy resistance gear | Tests gear interaction |
| 5 | Compare kill speed | Confirms if it works |
Use a big minus-res stack for testing.
A single -5% facet is too small to judge cleanly.
If the monster melts after step 4, it works.
If damage barely moves, your summon is not inheriting the stat.
↖ FAQ
↖ Does minus enemy resistance from gear help all minions in D2R?
No. It only helps certain summon-like skills. Hydras and Assassin traps benefit. Most traditional summons, including Druid wolves, Fire Golem, and many summon pets, do not.
↖ Do Sunder Charms help minions?
Yes. Sunder Charms can break immunity for minion damage. But the monster usually remains at 95% resistance, so damage may still be very low.
↖ Do Assassin traps benefit from Griffon's Eye and facets?
Yes. In Diablo 2 Resurrected, Assassin traps benefit from player-side -enemy resistance. Griffon's Eye is strong for lightning traps. Fire facets help fire traps.
↖ Does Hydra benefit from minus enemy fire resistance?
Yes. Hydra benefits from gear-based -enemy fire resistance. Fire Sunder plus stacked minus fire resistance gives a major damage increase against former fire immunes.
↖ Do Druid wolves or Fire Golem benefit from facets?
Not in a meaningful way. Druid cold wolves and Necromancer Fire Golem can benefit from Sunder breaking immunity, but player gear-based minus resistance does not appear to boost their damage properly.
↖ Summary
Gear-based -enemy resistance is powerful in D2R, but it is not a blanket minion damage stat.
Use it for:
| Works | Does Not Reliably Work |
|---|---|
| Sorceress Hydra | Druid cold wolves |
| Assassin fire traps | Necromancer Fire Golem |
| Assassin lightning traps | Warlock Tainted summons |
| Player-cast elemental skills | Most traditional summons |
For Hydra Sorceress and Trap Assassin, stack Sunder Charm + -enemy resistance and enjoy the damage jump.
For traditional summoners, spend your gear budget on +skills, curses, Conviction, mercenary support, and aura scaling.
The practical rule is simple:
If the game treats the damage as yours, minus resistance works. If the summon owns the damage, your facets usually stay on the bench.
