I've pushed deep Infinite runs with all five of these units. Here's the truth: raw DPS numbers lie. The units that actually carry hard content either delete waves, buff your team, or slow enemies down — ideally all three.

This ranking is based on overall meta value, not damage screenshots.

↖ Quick Ranking
| Rank | Unit | Role | Key Need | Why Meta |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Kenpachi | DPS + CC | Unbound | Huge damage, stun cleanse, permanent slow |
| 2 | Megumi | Hybrid DPS/Support/CC | High investment | Map-wide summon pressure |
| 3 | Yuta | Scaling DPS | Crit / strong neighbors | Copies nearby units — future-proof |
| 4 | Gowther | Support + CC | Utility traits | +20% damage taken debuff, Rewind |
| 5 | Elf Mage | Pure DPS | Unbound | Full AoE, follow-up attacks |
↖ Rank 5: Elf Mage — The AoE Wave Eraser
Pure damage, nothing else. That's her ceiling and her floor.
Strengths:
- Full AoE coverage — shreds stacked enemies in Infinite runs
- Follow-up attacks add real burst
- Works without perfect traits; spikes hard with Unbound
The problem: zero utility. No CC, no support. When stronger DPS drops, she's the easiest unit on this list to power creep.
Verdict: Build her as a damage anchor only if your CC and support slots are already covered. Don't expect her to solo-carry late waves.
↖ Rank 4: Gowther — The Boss Killer's Best Friend
Gowther beats Elf Mage despite lower DPS. Here's why.
| Ability | Effect |
|---|---|
| Puppet Mark | Strongest enemy in range takes 20% more damage |
| Doll summon | Triggers when marked enemies die |
| Rewind | Enemies walk backward for 2s, 30s cooldown |
That Puppet Mark always lands on the target that matters — the boss, the tanky elite, the wave-ender. And Rewind has saved more of my runs than any DPS upgrade ever has.
If bosses keep leaking through at low HP, Gowther is your fix. The 20% amp is often the difference between a wipe and a clear.
Verdict: First support unit to prioritize. Utility ages better than damage.
↖ Rank 3: Yuta — The Most Future-Proof Unit in the Game
Yuta copies the attack of the closest unit in range — including their AoE pattern.
| Upgrade Stage | Copied Damage |
|---|---|
| Early | 40% |
| Mid | 60% → 80% |
| Max | 100% |
Why this is borderline broken: park Yuta next to an Unbound Kenpachi and he mirrors one of the hardest-hitting attacks in the game. Copied hits can crit. And when stronger units release later? Yuta copies those too. No obvious ceiling.
The catch: placement is everything. Wrong neighbor = wasted unit. He brings no CC or support of his own.
Verdict: Mandatory if you own a cracked carry. His value multiplies with your roster.
↖ Rank 2: Megumi — The Hybrid That Does Everything
Megumi isn't a stand-and-shoot turret. His summons roam the map, covering awkward lanes and spread-out waves that static units can't touch.
What he brings:
- Very high DPS
- Map-wide pressure via moving summons
- Solid crowd control
- Genuine support value
The catch: he's expensive and needs setup time.
| Content | Performance |
|---|---|
| Long Infinite runs | Excellent |
| Boss content | Strong |
| Short stages / low economy | Hard to justify |
Verdict: Build him for long content with stable economy. His value keeps climbing the longer the run goes.
↖ Rank 1: Kenpachi — The Best Unit, Period
Kenpachi is the current king — but only with Unbound. Without it, he's noticeably below his reputation.
| Feature | Effect |
|---|---|
| Stun cleanse | Removes stun instantly, keeps DPS uptime |
| Cleanse follow-up | Extra attack at 125% current damage |
| Dismember | Permanently reduces enemy movement speed |
| Berserk | +20% damage, SBA reduced 10% |
| Execute follow-up | Bonus pressure below 10% enemy HP |
Dismember is the sleeper. A permanent slow looks boring until wave 50+, when stacked speed reduction gives your whole board extra attack windows. He's a DPS unit and a CC unit in one slot.
Costs: full investment runs ~90K. Manage your economy or he'll bankrupt your run.
Verdict: Best carry in the game if you have Unbound. Pair with Gowther's Puppet Mark and put Yuta next to him — that's the current endgame core.
↖ Build Priority: Who First?
| Your Problem | Build This |
|---|---|
| Need a main carry | Kenpachi |
| Bosses survive too long | Gowther |
| Already own strong carries | Yuta |
| Long Infinite runs | Megumi |
| Need AoE wave clear | Elf Mage |
My investment order: Kenpachi (Unbound) → Gowther → Yuta → Megumi → Elf Mage.
Don't blindly chase rank one. If you already have damage but no support, Gowther improves your runs more than a second carry ever will. A balanced team needs three things: damage, support, control. Stack pure DPS and you'll fold the moment enemies get fast and tanky.
↖ FAQ
↖ What is the best unit in Anime Expeditions?
Kenpachi, hands down. High DPS, stun cleanse with a 125% follow-up, Berserk scaling, and permanent slow via Dismember. He needs Unbound to hit full power.
↖ Is Kenpachi good without Unbound?
Usable, but not top-tier. His meta reputation assumes an optimized Unbound build. Budget accordingly — full investment is around 90K.
↖ Why is Gowther ranked above Elf Mage?
Team value. Puppet Mark makes the strongest enemy take 20% more damage, and Rewind buys you 2 seconds when waves push too hard. Elf Mage only brings damage.
↖ Can Yuta stay meta long-term?
Yes — probably longer than anyone else here. He copies attacks (up to 100%) from nearby units, so every future powerhouse release potentially buffs him too.
↖ Which unit should beginners build first?
Fix your biggest weakness. No damage? Kenpachi or Elf Mage. Bosses leaking? Gowther. Already have a strong carry? Yuta.
↖ Summary
Kenpachi is the meta king — elite damage plus permanent slow in one slot. Megumi is the best all-rounder for long runs. Yuta is the most future-proof pick thanks to his copy mechanic. Gowther wins the most runs saved award with her damage amp and Rewind. Elf Mage still clears waves beautifully but needs a team built around her.
The formula is simple: carry first, support second, control third. Get all three online and hard content stops being hard.
