If you've logged into Black Ops 7 recently, you might have noticed your favorite submachine gun feels a bit different. You aren't imagining things. Yesterday's update overhauled the weapon tuning, specifically targeting how SMGs compete with Assault Rifles.
- Time to Kill (TTK): The Speed Demons
- Range & Accuracy: Extending Your Reach
- Handling & Mobility: The Feel Factor
- FAQ: Quick Answers for the Grind
- The Verdict: Which One Fits Your Style?
Previously, ARs were bullying SMGs even in close quarters. Now? The gap has narrowed. But with new stats comes a new meta. We've crunched the numbers—from raw Time to Kill (TTK) to the messy reality of recoil patterns—to save you the headache of testing them all yourself.

↖ Time to Kill (TTK): The Speed Demons
When you are face-to-face with an enemy, milliseconds matter. If your priority is deleting opponents as fast as possible, you have two clear winners.
The Kings of CQC: Razer 9mm & MPC25
Both of these weapons boast a blistering 240ms TTK in their effective range. This is the gold standard right now. If you play aggressively and like to be in your opponent's face, these are your bread and butter.
The Trap Weapon: RK9
You might look at the RK9 burst SMG and think it has potential. Be careful.
- The Problem: It cannot achieve a one-burst kill without a headshot.
- The Reality: If you miss that headshot, your TTK plummets because you have to wait for the burst delay to fire again.
- The Exception: If you have god-tier aim and can mix in just one headshot, the TTK drops to an absurd 170ms.
Pro Tip: generally speaking, don't fish for headshots with SMGs in this game. Unlike previous titles, the multiplier usually isn't high enough to reduce your shots-to-kill unless you hit 3 or 4 headshots in a row. Aim center mass for consistency.

↖ Range & Accuracy: Extending Your Reach
Raw power is useless if you can't hit the target. This is where the class starts to split between bullet hoses and precision tools.
The Laser Beam: Draic 45
If you hate recoil, pick the Draic. It has the best bullet velocity (meaning it's practically hitscan out to 25-30 meters) and the most consistent recoil pattern. It kicks up and to the right, but it's smooth.
Why use it? It is currently the most user-friendly SMG. It bridges the gap between an SMG and an AR better than anything else.
The Range King: Carbon 57
On paper, this gun has the best maximum damage range. However, there is a catch.
The S Curve: The recoil pattern cuts left, then snaps back right in an S shape. While the recent patch smoothed this out, it can still throw your aim off during sustained fire.
↖ Handling & Mobility: The Feel Factor
SMGs are supposed to be fast, but Black Ops 7 has made some interesting trade-offs here.
The Speedster: MPC25
This gun dominates in handling stats. It has fast aim-down-sight (ADS) times and great movement speed.
The Trade-off: It kicks like a mule. Unlike other CODs where recoil eventually caps out, the MPC25 just keeps climbing vertically. If you hold the trigger, you will eventually be shooting at the sky. You need to fight this gun to make it work.
The Heavyweight: Carbon 57
Because of its large magazine, the Carbon feels sluggish. Its handling stats are dangerously close to Assault Rifle territory. If you rely on snap-aiming, this weapon might feel too slow for you.
↖ FAQ: Quick Answers for the Grind
Q: Which SMG is best for a beginner?
A: Go with the Draic 45. Its high bullet velocity and predictable recoil make it the most forgiving weapon in the class. You won't lose gunfights just because you couldn't control the kick.
Q: Is the RK9 burst SMG viable now?
A: Only if you are a high-skill player. You must hit at least one headshot per burst to make it competitive. If you hit all body shots, you will lose to almost every other SMG.
Q: Did the update actually fix SMGs?
A: Mostly, yes. Before the patch, ARs were winning close-range fights too often. Now, SMGs like the Razer and MPC25 have a distinct advantage up close (0-15m), while ARs still dominate the mid-to-long range. The balance feels much healthier.
↖ The Verdict: Which One Fits Your Style?
We don't believe in a single best gun, because it depends entirely on how you play the map. Here is how you should choose:
1. For the Aggressive Rusher: Pick the MPC25 or Razer 9mm. You get the fastest 240ms kill time. Just be prepared to manage the MPC's vertical recoil or the Razer's bounce.
2. For the Tactical Flex Player: Pick the Draic 45. It's accurate, has great velocity, and lets you challenge enemies at ranges where other SMGs fail.
3. For the High-Risk, High-Reward Player: The RK9 offers the fastest theoretical kill time (170ms), but it punishes missed shots severely.
The SMG category is finally in a spot where it can stand on its own. Grab the Draic if you want consistency, or the Razer if you want to melt faces up close. Good luck out there
