What is up, guys? Ace here. Black Ops 7 Season 1 is finally here, and it brought us a brand new toy: the KOGOT-7.
I believe this is currently one of the best SMGs in the entire game. You might think I'm hyping it up, but after dropping back-to-back Nukes in lobbies full of absolute sweats—some even rocking Nuke calling cards of their own—the results speak for themselves. With a blistering fire rate of 952 RPM and mobility stats tied for first place with the RK9, this thing is a monster.

However, there is a catch. Out of the box, this gun's handling can be described as egregious. If you don't respect its recoil, it's just a high-speed water gun. But if you follow this guide and tame it, you'll have a laser beam that melts everything in sight.
↖ How to Unlock the KOGOT-7
Before we can start melting people, we need to get the weapon in your hands. Season 1 follows the classic Battle Pass formula, but there are two ways to grab it depending on your grind:
Standard Battle Pass: You can unlock the KOGOT-7 on Page 3. It's a relatively early unlock, so you won't have to grind for weeks just to try it out.
HVT Tier: If you are focusing on High-Value Targets, you can find it on Page 11.
The Grind Details:
Once you have it, the journey begins. The weapon caps out at Level 39, which is a decent grind but manageable. It features 4 Magazine options and full customization support including Mastery Badges, Skins, and Reticle unlocks across Multiplayer, Zombies, and Warzone.
↖ The Trap: Understanding the Raw Stats
Before we build the ultimate class, you need to understand the three hidden personalities of this weapon.
1. The Three-Stage Recoil
The recoil pattern on the KOGOT-7 is sporadic. The first few shots kick up vertically very hard. Then, it drifts to the right. If you keep holding the trigger, it eventually corrects back to the left.
What does this mean for you?
It means you can't just mindlessly spray. You have to aggressively pull down during those first few shots. That initial kick is what causes most players to lose gunfights.
2. Deceptive Range
On paper, the 5-shot kill range extends to about 13 meters. That sounds average, but because the fire rate is so high, if you extend that range with the right barrel, the Time-to-Kill (TTK) at mid-range is actually better than most other SMGs. It's a close-quarters weapon that secretly wants to be an Assault Rifle.
3. The Headshot Myth
Unless you are running the specific Headshot Barrel, do not aim for the head. You need to hit four consecutive headshots to reduce your shots-to-kill, which is unrealistic in a chaotic gunfight. Aim for the chest, stay consistent, and let the fire rate do the work.

↖ The Laser Beam Loadout (Nuke Build)
This is the exact setup I used to drop those high-kill games. Our goal is simple: delete the recoil so we can abuse the range.
- Muzzle: Compensator
Do yourself a favor and equip this immediately. We need it to crush that vertical kick. While suppressors are nice for stealth, in the current meta, accuracy is king. Without this, you are shooting at the sky.
- Barrel: Canis Barrel
This gives a massive boost to damage range. It makes the KOGOT-7 feel like the old Tra 45, allowing you to challenge AR players at 20+ meters and actually win.
- Underbarrel: Vast Drift Lock Foregrip
This is the secret sauce. It provides a boatload of horizontal recoil control while also helping with vertical. It straightens out that weird right-left drift.
- Magazine: 40 Round Mag
Here is a pro tip: Do not get greedy and pick the 50-round mag. The 50-round option severely hurts your ADS and sprint-to-fire speeds, making the gun feel like a heavy LMG. The 40-round mag has no cons. It keeps you snappy and mobile.
- Rear Grip/Mod: Recoil Springs
The final piece of the puzzle. Stack this with the grip and muzzle, and the gun genuinely does not move.
↖ Advanced Mechanics: The Ace Secrets
Having the right build is only half the battle. Here are two mechanics that will separate you from the casuals.
1. The Reload Cancel Trick
The stats say the reload takes 1.35 seconds, but that's a lie. It's faster.
The moment the magazine touches the gun, the ammo count updates. If you notice the number change in the bottom right, you can immediately sprint or swap weapons to cancel the rest of the animation. Combined with the 40-round mag, this makes your downtime almost non-existent.
2. The Akimbo Toggle
If you grind for the Prestige Akimbo attachment, you aren't stuck just hip-firing.
In-game (Left on the D-Pad for console), you can toggle back to single-weapon mode. This allows you to switch between an insane 112ms TTK dual-wield shredder up close, and a single, aim-down-sight weapon for mid-range. It's incredibly fun for Faceoff maps, even if it's not the most competitive choice for ranked.
↖ Top-Tier Loadout Recommendations
Based on different playstyles, I've tuned three specific setups that cover everything from stealthy flanking to dual-wielding chaos.
Build A: The All-Rounder Stealth (My Personal Favorite)
Perfect for players who love to flank, slide-cancel into faces, but still need to hold their own at medium range.

| Slot | Attachment | Benefit |
|---|---|---|
| Muzzle | Suppressor | Keeps you off the radar |
| Underbarrel | Drift Lock | Fixes horizontal bounce |
| Magazine | Extended Mag I (40 Rounds) | The core of your sustainability |
| Rear Grip | Remedy Grip | Boosts ADS and Sprint-to-Fire speeds |
| Mod | Buffer Spring | Crushes the recoil even further |
Build B: The Laser Beam (Gunfighter Wildcard Exclusive)
If you are willing to sacrifice your Wildcard slot for Gunfighter, this setup turns the KOGOT-7 into a mid-range laser pointer.

| Slot | Attachment | Benefit |
|---|---|---|
| Optic | ELO Sight | Cleanest possible sight picture |
| Muzzle | Hawker Series Compensator | Maximum recoil control |
| Barrel | Long Barrel | Adds +30% Range |
| Underbarrel | Vast Drift Lock | Horizontal Control |
| Magazine | 40 Round Mag | Increased Ammo Capacity |
| Stock | EMT3 Radix Stock | Boosts mobility for strafing |
↖ Build C: The Akimbo Fun Build
Best suited for the Faceoff playlist or for players who just want to experience the thrill of dual-wielding.

| Slot | Attachment | Benefit |
|---|---|---|
| Special Stock | Akimbo (Dual Wield) | Enables Dual Wielding |
| Muzzle | Hawker Ported Muzzle | Tightens hipfire spread |
| Barrel | Damage Barrel | Compensates for damage penalty |
| Rear Grip | Remedy Light | Increases sliding speed |
| Laser | Convergence Box Laser | Further tightens hipfire spread |
Note: This setup uses the Laser and Muzzle to effectively cancel out the spread penalty from Akimbo, making you nearly invincible at point-blank range.
↖ Survival Guide: The Perk Greed Strategy
You can have the best gun in the world, but if you can't stay alive, you can't get a Nuke.
Here is the perk setup that keeps you in the fight:
- Wildcard: Perk Greed
This allows us to take two red perks.
- Perk 1: Vigilance
This makes you immune to Counter UAVs. When you finally earn your Harp (Advanced UAV), you don't want the enemy scrambling your radar. Plus, the built-in Forward Intel expands your minimap, so nobody can flank you.
- Perk 2: Scavenger
At 952 RPM, you burn through ammo instantly. Unless you want to pick up random floor loot, you need this.
- Field Upgrade: Squad Link
Trust me, this is the fastest way to cycle your scorestreaks right now.
↖ FAQ
Q: How is this gun in Hardcore mode?
A: It is absolutely unfair. Within that first 13-meter range, it is a one-shot kill anywhere to the body. With its mobility, you will dominate the lobby.
Q: Should I use the Rapid Fire barrel?
A: I wouldn't recommend it. It pushes the fire rate to a crazy 1,071 RPM, but it hurts your range and makes the recoil uncontrollable. It turns a precision weapon into a chaotic mess.
Q: Can I use a Suppressor for a stealth build?
A: You can, but you have to compensate. If you run a Suppressor, make sure you keep the Drift Lock underbarrel and Buffer Springs to make up for the loss of the Compensator. It's a viable playstyle for flanking, but you lose that laser precision at range.
↖ Final Verdict
The KOGOT-7 is a high-skill, high-reward weapon. It isn't a wheelchair gun that does the work for you; it demands that you control the kick and use your movement.
If you are willing to spend a few matches getting used to that initial recoil jump, you will find that there is currently very little that can compete with it. Jump in, set up that Laser class, and go ruin some lobbies before Treyarch decides to nerf it.
