Ranged slot is the most ignored gear slot in the game. Soldier's Brooch fixes that—if you don't screw up the turn-in. Here's the fast version: kill 4 mobs, set your primary class right, turn in, then parse to confirm it's actually helping your DPS.

↖ The One Rule That Matters: Primary Class = Your Reward
The NPC reads your primary class at the moment you trade in the insignias. Not your unlocked classes. Not your favorite class. Whatever's set as primary, that's the brooch you get.
Running Monk / Paladin / Enchanter but want the Paladin brooch? Swap to Paladin / Monk / Enchanter before you hand anything over.
Known quirks:
- Monk and Rogue appear to share the same brooch reward path.
- Shadow Knight and Necromancer rewards have been reported swapped. If you play either, treat your first turn-in as a test run.
- Messed it up? No big deal — the quest repeats.
↖ Requirements
Skip the Froglok myth — any race can do this quest.
| Requirement | Needed? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Froglok race | No | Open to everyone |
| Correct primary class | Yes | Determines reward |
| 4 insignias | Yes | Farmed from nearby NPCs |
| Non-KOS faction | Helpful | Smooths the trade |
| Enchanter buffs | Optional | Alliance/Illusion helps bad faction |
If faction's rough, run Alliance-style spells or a Human Illusion — swap Enchanter into a secondary slot if your build allows it.
↖ How to Complete the Quest
↖ 1. Lock In Your Class Order
Decide the brooch you want. Set that class as primary first. Do this before you even start farming.
↖ 2. Find the NPC
Turn-in target: Gas Commander Foul Tip. Mark him on your map.
↖ 3. Farm the Insignias
Four nearby NPCs, roughly level 9–11, drop the required insignias. At max level, these die in one hit. Kill all four, loot, done.
| Enemy Group | Level | Difficulty | Drop |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4 quest NPCs | ~9–11 | Trivial | Insignias |
They respawn independent of quest state — just farm the spot.
↖ 4. Turn In Together
Bring all four insignias to Foul Tip and trade at once. Don't trade one at a time. Double-check your primary class right before the trade — this is where people mess up.
↖ Fast Farming for Multiple Brooches
Repeatable quest + trivial mobs = easy farm loop.
| Method | How | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Standard loop | Kill → return → turn in | Simple, safe |
| Bind-and-gate | Bind near spawn, gate back after turn-in | Fastest repeats |
| Class-swap loop | Swap primary before each turn-in | Collect multiple brooch versions |
Farming brooches for several alts? Class-swap loop is the move.
↖ Does the Brooch Actually Boost DPS? Test It.
Stats on paper don't mean much. Parse it.
↖ Getting to the Arena
Rathe Mountains → Lake Rathe → zone into the Arena. Hail the dummy NPC — spawns range from level 10 to 70. For a level 50 character, test on a 60–65 dummy, not a low-level punching bag that inflates your numbers.
↖ Test One Variable at a Time
| Stage | Change | Keep Fixed |
|---|---|---|
| Baseline | No buffs, no stance change | Same dummy |
| Stance test | Swap one stance | Same gear/buffs |
| Buff test | Add one song/buff | Same stance/gear |
| Gear test | Swap one item | Everything else |
| Rotation test | Add dots/nukes/discs | Same gear/dummy |
Change five things at once and you'll have zero idea what actually worked.
↖ Real Parse Example
| Test | Duration | DPS |
|---|---|---|
| Offensive Stance | ~40s | 153 |
| Striker Stance | ~40s | 182 |
| Striker + song buff | ~40s | 205 |
Striker beat Offensive in this run. But 40 seconds is a coin flip — crits and procs swing short parses hard.
| Parse Length | Reliability |
|---|---|
| 30–40s | Low — quick sniff test only |
| 2 min | Good baseline |
| 5 min | Solid for real decisions |
| 10 min | Raid-accurate, mildly soul-crushing |
Rule of thumb: 2 minutes minimum before you trust a number.
↖ Building Your DPS Rotation
1. Pick one dummy level and never switch mid-testing.
2. Test stances first — biggest impact, easiest swap.
3. Add buffs one at a time — song, then haste, then dots. Isolate each gain.
4. Swap gear piece by piece. Better stats on paper ≠ better parse. Test it.
5. Test procs on long parses only — a proc weapon can look godly in one 40s run and mediocre in the next. Track total proc damage, not vibes.
6. Stack the full rotation — best stance + best buffs + best gear + procs + cooldowns. This is your raid setup, not just your dummy-parse setup.
↖ Mistakes That Waste Your Time
| Mistake | Fix |
|---|---|
| Wrong primary class at turn-in | Check class order first |
| 20–30s test parses | Run 2+ minutes minimum |
| Changing multiple variables | One change per test |
| Mixed dummy levels | Same dummy, every test |
| Skipping buff testing | Test baseline, then buffed |
| Trusting item tooltips | Parse the real number |
If a upgrade tanks your DPS, don't panic — retest longer, then test it inside your full rotation before ditching it.
↖ FAQ
↖ What determines which Soldier's Brooch I get?
Your primary class at turn-in time. Set the class you want before trading in insignias.
↖ Do I need to be a Froglok?
No. Any race can complete this quest.
↖ Can I repeat the quest?
Yes — repeatable. Useful if you get the wrong brooch or want versions for multiple builds.
↖ Should I turn in insignias one at a time?
No. All four at once to Gas Commander Foul Tip.
↖ How long should my DPS parse be?
Minimum 2 minutes for reliable data. 40 seconds only shows a rough trend — not enough to make gear decisions on.
↖ Bottom Line
Set your primary class, farm four easy mobs, turn in together — that's the whole quest. The real work is after: parse it. Test stance, then buffs, then gear, one variable at a time, minimum 2-minute runs. In our sample run, Striker beat Offensive by 29 DPS, and stacking a song pushed it even higher — but your mileage depends on your class, gear, and rotation. Don't guess. Parse it.
