ARK Survival Ascended Bone Farming: Best Routes, Gear & Loot Tips
We recommend Ragnarok's northeastern island for lower-risk bone farming and Extinction's Forbidden Zone for developed combat mounts. Hunt the DodoRex when your army is ready and the boss is available—not as a replacement for a repeatable route.

Choose the Route Your Mount Can Survive
If you chase the largest payout without counting downtime, one bad encounter can erase the entire trip. We prioritize repeatable fights over spectacular kills.
Community gameplay tests provide useful examples, but these results are not guaranteed drops or current-patch benchmarks.
| Route | Community test example | Main failure point | Our pick |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ragnarok northeast island | 54 bones in roughly 40 minutes | Sparse targets, travel, missed loot | Lower-risk patrols |
| Extinction Forbidden Zone | Individual kills yielded 18–26 from skeletal Gigas and 44 from a skeletal Rex | Multiple attackers and expensive recovery | Developed mounts with controlled pulls |
| DodoRex | 115 bones from one kill, with a 5–10-minute fight | Finding the boss and preparing the army | An opportunity between regular runs |
Start on Ragnarok unless your mount already survives dangerous Extinction encounters reliably.
Before leaving base, confirm skeletal creatures are spawning on your server. Event availability and settings differ; an inactive event means neither route produces its intended targets.

Extinction: Isolate Targets in the Forbidden Zone
The Forbidden Zone's main threat is fight overlap. A skeletal target may look manageable until nearby Gigas or other creatures join the attack.
We use two navigation references—not fixed spawn locations:
- Entrance: approximately 19.0 latitude, 41.9 longitude.
- Northern search area: approximately 16.3 latitude, 42.0 longitude.
Build a short combat loop
If a second group joins your pull, retreat before pushing deeper. Recovering outside the fighting area is cheaper than replacing a developed tame.
1. Scout the target and surrounding threats.
2. Prioritize isolated skeletal Gigas and skeletal Rexes.
3. Keep your retreat path clear. Avoid fighting where followers block the exit.
4. Check participating mounts and nearby loot after each kill.
5. Recover before starting another engagement.
6. Return to base when your remaining health margin becomes unreliable.
Skip crowded targets.
Clearing ordinary creatures creates room for replacement spawns, but does not guarantee a skeletal replacement or an immediate respawn. We should never treat this area as an infinite bone dispenser.
Treat showcase stats as examples, not requirements
One community demonstration used a fully imprinted Carcharodontosaurus with 30,000 health, 3,000%+ melee, and a 124-armor saddle. Those stats describe a heavily developed mount; they do not establish a minimum requirement.
Another test took approximately 10 Carcharodontosaurus with 17,000 health and 300% melee into the area and sustained heavy early damage. Admin assistance affected parts of that attempt, so its survival cannot validate the loadout.
More bodies do not fix weak damage, poor saddles, or bad positioning.

Ragnarok: Patrol, Kill, Collect, Move
If Extinction forces long recovery breaks, switch to Ragnarok's northeastern island around 19.3 latitude, 88.5 longitude. Search for skeletal Brontos, Stegos, and Trikes, then keep the circuit moving.
The overlooked bottleneck is collection. A fast ranged kill saves nothing if you fly away without the bones.
Follow a collection-first circuit
We favor a combat-capable flyer for scouting and repositioning, but you should use a mount that finishes fights safely—not copy an extreme melee figure.
1. Sweep the island for skeletal targets.
2. Choose accessible enemies before distant ones.
3. Kill, then collect immediately.
4. Clear ordinary eligible creatures when safe, allowing future replacements a chance to become event variants.
5. Finish the circuit before revisiting cleared ground.
6. Widen the patrol if buildings or competing players reduce available targets.
A community Ragnarok test found the following individual drops.
| Skeletal target | Observed bones | Practical priority |
|---|---|---|
| Stego | 5–6 | Take convenient kills |
| Trike | About 6 | Clear nearby targets |
| Bronto | 11–15 | Prioritize when travel and kill time stay reasonable |
Take the nearby Stego rather than crossing the island for a Bronto whose extra bones disappear into travel time.

DodoRex: Take the Opportunity, Not the Detour
A large boss reward becomes inefficient when searching and preparation consume the evening. We treat DodoRex hunting as an interruption to a productive patrol, not the default farming loop.
One community test yielded 115 bones, with a 5–10-minute fight. That timing excludes the full cost of finding the boss and preparing the army.
Commit only when the setup is ready
If you still need to breed fighters, obtain saddles, or locate the target, continue your regular route. When the boss is available, assess the terrain, competition, and your army before committing.
- Prepare a proven combat group. No reliable minimum follows from the available example.
- Keep the engagement area clear. Avoid adding unrelated threats.
- Collect the reward before redeploying.
- Do not assume Dodo Wyvern pays the same amount. It requires separate preparation and reward verification.
The useful comparison is total trip time, not boss-fight duration.
FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
What is the best way to farm Dinosaur Bones in ARK: Survival Ascended?
Ragnarok suits lower-risk farming; Extinction's Forbidden Zone suits developed combat mounts. We choose between them by recovery time and survival margin, while treating DodoRex kills as occasional high-payout opportunities.
Where is the Ragnarok bone-farming location?
Search the northeastern island near 19.3 latitude, 88.5 longitude. Patrol for skeletal Brontos, Stegos, and Trikes rather than expecting a guaranteed spawn directly at the coordinate.
What stats do we need for Extinction bone farming?
There is no verified minimum loadout in the available tests. A developed, imprinted Carcharodontosaurus with a strong saddle is a practical starting approach, but you should test an isolated engagement and retreat if recovery cannot support repeated fights.
Why did a skeletal dinosaur leave us no bones?
Check every participating tame's inventory, then inspect the corpse and nearby loot. Bones may be on another attacker, and ranged kills require a separate collection step before you leave.
Does Wyvern Milk prevent bleed damage on a farming mount?
Do not rely on Wyvern Milk as universal bleed protection for your mount. Confirm the applicable effect and duration on your server; if incoming damage outpaces recovery, retreat regardless of any active buff.
