Giga Taming Requirements
Prepare this equipment before approaching a wild Giga.
| Item | Recommended amount or stats |
|---|---|
| Stegosaurus | Level 150 perfect tame |
| Stego health | Approximately 30,000 |
| Shotgun | 400% damage |
| Alpha trophies | 3 |
| Veggie Cakes | Several |
| Saddle | 148 armor demonstrated |
| Shotgun ammunition | Large supply |
| Narcotics | Approximately 100 |
| Extraordinary Kibble | Required for feeding |
| Medical Brews | Emergency healing |
| Spare armor | 1 set |
| Binoculars | Recommended |
Testing note: These values use a 5x taming setup; the 400% shotgun is the demonstrated configuration, not a verified universal minimum.
Pro Tip: Prioritize shotgun damage over an expensive Stego; the demonstrated 30,000-health setup handles the encounter.
How to Tame the New Giganotosaurus
Step 1: Craft the Apex Offering
- Collect 3 Alpha trophies; Alpha Teeth are the recommended option.
- Open your inventory and find the Apex Offering crafting recipe.
- Craft the offering and keep it in your inventory.

Step 2: Find a Wild Giga
- Search the main mountain regions for wild Giganotosaurus spawns.
- Carno Island has occasional sightings but is not a reliable primary location.
- Prepare all equipment before initiating the encounter.
Critical: Never let the Giga leave render distance after detecting you; this repeatedly breaks rage progression in our testing.
Step 3: Initiate the Challenge
- Activate the Apex Offering to initiate the encounter.
- Enable tracking to monitor rage and Torpor progression.
- Shoot the Giga with your high-damage shotgun.
- Keep the creature loaded throughout the encounter.
Step 4: Trigger Rage Twice
- Build rage using the shotgun while monitoring Torpor.
- Allow the first rage period to finish.
- Continue the encounter until the second rage activation.
- Do not treat 497 as a universal threshold; progression varies with Giga level.
Our level 150 test required two rage activations before completing the knockout progression.
Pro Tip: Torpor continues increasing after the first rage period ends; do not abandon the encounter prematurely.
Step 5: Use Your Stego to Absorb Damage
- Keep the Stego between yourself and the Giga.
- Monitor health and use Veggie Cakes when necessary.
- Maintain engagement until the required Torpor progression is complete.
Our demonstrated Stego had approximately 26,000 health remaining and received around 112 damage per hit during one test.

Step 6: Knock Out the Giga
- Continue building Torpor until the Giga collapses.
- The demonstrated Giga's health reset from approximately 30% to 35% during the encounter.
- Do not assume this behavior applies universally without verifying your game version.
Step 7: Prevent Torpor Loss
- Open the unconscious Giga's inventory immediately.
- Add approximately 100 Narcotics in the demonstrated setup.
- Insert Extraordinary Kibble.
- Monitor Torpor until taming finishes.
Critical: Torpor drops extremely quickly after knockout; prepare Narcotics before starting the encounter.
Giganotosaurus Saddle
The Giga Saddle unlocks at level 96.
| Material | Quantity |
|---|---|
| Hide | 680 |
| Fiber | 350 |
| Metal Ingots | 120 |
| Unlock level | 96 |
Verdict: Gather the metal and hide before taming if you want to ride your Giga immediately.
All New Giganotosaurus Abilities
The updated Giga has four standard combat abilities and a redesigned rage system.
| Ability | Input | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Bite | Left-click | Main forward attack |
| Heavy Stomp | Right-click, look forward or sideways | Damage and slow |
| Tail Slam | Right-click, look backward | Rear attack and slow |
| Roar | C | Movement boost after hitting an enemy |
| Rage Mode | Automatic | Increased damage and potential rider dismount |
Heavy Stomp
- Press Right-click while looking forward or sideways.
- Change camera direction to switch between left-foot and right-foot stomps.
- Use it against enemies approaching from the sides.
Tail Slam
- Press Right-click while looking behind the Giga.
- Hit enemies positioned behind you.
- Apply the slowing effect without turning around.
Roar
- Press C to roar.
- Hit an enemy to activate the demonstrated movement-related benefit.
- The Giga's movement increase is weaker than the Carcharodontosaurus's.

New Giga Rage Mode Explained
Rage is the Giga's strongest combat mechanic.
- Building rage: Skin begins glowing.
- Approaching rage: Glow becomes brighter and the rider meter fills.
- Control warning: Attack when prompted to regain control.
- Failed recovery: Giga dismounts its rider.
- Full rage: Damage increases to nearly twice normal output.
Our testing showed full rage attacks reaching approximately 1,500 damage, compared with 553 normal damage.
Pro Tip: Watch the rider meter rather than relying exclusively on the Giga's glowing appearance; the control warning determines when you must react.
Giga vs. Carcharodontosaurus Damage
Both creatures were tested at level 150 with similar base melee points and no additional stat levels.
| Attack | Carcharodontosaurus | Giganotosaurus |
|---|---|---|
| Standard attack | 195 | 553 |
| Tail attack | 142 | Not specified |
| Heavy stomp | — | 553 |
| Tail slam | — | 553 |
| Built-up rage attack | 280 | — |
| Full rage attack | — | Approximately 1,500 |
Verdict: Choose the Giga for raw damage; its normal bite already outperforms the demonstrated Carcharodontosaurus attack.
Initial Rage vs. Full Rage Damage
| Test | Giga damage |
|---|---|
| Normal attack | 553 |
| Initial rage attack | 1,200 |
| Initial attack against another Giga | 2,400+ |
| Subsequent attacks | Approximately 250 less per hit |
| Full rage attack | Approximately 1,500 |
| Full rage sequence | 12 hits |
The initial attack against another Giga loses approximately 250 damage per subsequent hit across five attacks.
Full rage follows a separate sequence, starting around 1,500 and gradually dropping into the 1,400s.
Pro Tip: Do not combine the 2,400+ initial hit and 1,500 full-rage hit into one damage benchmark; they are different tests.
Can Turrets and Rockets Kill the New Giga?
Our turret test triggered Giga rage within seconds, while the rocket launcher test produced zero observed damage.
| Defense | Test result | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| One heavy turret | Triggered rage within seconds | Retain turret coverage |
| Rocket launcher | Zero damage observed | Verify before relying on rockets |
| Rocket splash against players | Not established | Do not assume player immunity |
Verdict: Prioritize heavy turrets for base defense; the rocket interaction requires further testing.

Bionic Giganotosaurus: Tech Variant
- The Bionic Giga, also called the Tech Giga, returns with an updated appearance.
- Wild spawns are identified as possible.
- Higher-level wild Gigas are suggested to have increased Bionic spawn chances.
- Exact spawn locations and probabilities remain unverified.
Pro Tip: Check high-level wild Gigas, but do not assume a specific spawn rate without verified data.
