ARK Survival Ascended Genesis Best Tek Rifle Farm: Hunting by Moonlight Beta Guide

Genesis has a lot of missions. Most of them waste your time. Hunting by Moonlight doesn't.

ARK Survival Ascended Genesis Best Tek Rifle Farm: Hunting by Moonlight Beta Guide

Run it on Beta, and you'll walk out with multiple Tek Rifles per clear — no cheese, no exploits, just terrain control and a Deinosuchus doing the heavy lifting. Here's the exact loop.

Mission

DetailInfo
Location Lunar Biome, 42 Lat, 18 Long
Best DifficultyBeta
Solo? Yes, with prep
Threats High-level Giga + tanky Rex pack
MVP CreatureDeinosuchus
Must-Have ItemGrappling Hook

Gamma is fine for learning the route. Alpha pays more but demands a min-maxed saddle and zero mistakes. Beta is the sweet spot — good loot, forgiving enough to solo repeatedly.

Gear Checklist

Don't skip this. The Lunar Biome punishes underprepared runs harder than the mobs do.

ItemAmount
Grappling Hooks20+
Pump Shotgun (250-300%+ dmg) 1
Shotgun Ammo 100+
Hazmat Suit (full set) 1
Medical Brews 20+
Cryopod (for Deinosuchus) 1+

A 250-300% shotgun clears the first Giga phase comfortably. Anything under 180% works, but you're extending your exposure time for no reason.

Day vs Night: Don't Skip Hazmat

Run this at night if you can. Daytime Lunar radiation ticks damage even when nothing's attacking you.

  • Biome flips to day? Hazmat on, immediately.
  • No Hazmat and it's daytime? Abort the mission. Not worth it.
  • Random unexplained HP loss mid-run = check the clock, not your combat log.

Phase 1: The First Giga (Grapple or Die)

Standing your ground here is how runs end in seconds. The Giga's damage output on Beta is brutal.

Do this instead:

1. Grapple to high terrain the moment it spawns.

2. Hold jump mid-grapple to gain extra height.

3. Shoot down with your shotgun.

4. Not landing hits? Drop slightly, adjust angle — don't drop low enough to eat a bite.

The Giga hits like a truck but doesn't have crazy HP in this phase. Chip it down until it backs off or the mission progresses. One greedy shot in bite range isn't worth it.

Tracking Phase

You'll follow footprints back to a final arena. Route length varies — sometimes ~70 tracks, sometimes 120+.

  • Terrain is awkward and gravity feels off. Grapple through it, don't jump it.
  • Long route? Slow down near the end — the final fight can trigger without warning.

Final Fight: Giga + Rex Pack

This is where a good Deinosuchus turns a 15-minute slog into a clean 5-minute clear.

Recommended Deino stats:

StatTarget
HP 20,000+
Melee 500%+
Imprint High

The Border Trick

The arena has movement limits. Enemies pulled to the edge reposition or reset — use that.

1. Tag an enemy to pull it.

2. Watch where it moves.

3. Stand near its edge boundary.

4. Charged bite when it's close.

5. Back off immediately.

6. Repeat.

Rexes = huge HP pool, manageable per-hit damage. Grind them down with charged bites, don't facetank.

Giga = the opposite. Less HP, way more damage. Hit once, disengage, reset. Never trade extended hits. Avoid fighting it uphill — large dinos get weird with hit angles on Lunar terrain.

Loot: What You're Actually Getting

Beta clears regularly drop multiple Tek Rifles per run, some landing around 120%+ weapon damage on official-rate settings. Boosted servers push this noticeably higher.

Tek Rifle %Verdict
~100% Basic, keep as backup
110-130% Solid, official-rate standard
130-160% Strong, worth stockpiling
160%+ Excellent

Mistakes That Kill Your Run

MistakeFix
Fighting first Giga on the ground Grapple up, always
No Hazmat during daytime Full Hazmat before entering
Facetanking Rexes Use Deino + border pulls
Staying near Giga too long Hit-and-reposition only
Under 20 grapples Restock before every run

FAQ

Can Gamma drop Tek Rifles?

Yes, but Beta gives noticeably better loot without Alpha's punishing difficulty spike.

Is Beta soloable?

Yes — grapples, a strong shotgun, Hazmat, and a solid Deinosuchus are all you need.

Do I need a Deinosuchus?

Not required, but the Rex health pools make the final phase painfully slow without one.

Why are grapples mandatory?

They're your only safe way to escape the first Giga's melee range and cross Lunar terrain without risky jumps.

Are Rexes worse than the Giga?

No. Giga hits far harder per attack. Rexes are just a health-pool problem, not a damage problem.

Bottom Line

Beta + 20 grapples + Hazmat + 250%+ shotgun + strong Deinosuchus = a repeatable Tek Rifle farm that doesn't rely on luck. Grapple the first Giga, track carefully, border-pull the final pack, hit-and-reset the last Giga. Once you've run it twice, it stops feeling scary and starts feeling like free loot.
