The Evo Therizinosaurus is a TLC overhaul from Paleo ARK Evolution. It replaces every wild vanilla Therizino on your map. Same role, better everything: sharper claws, meaner combat kit, and top-tier harvesting.

If you already tamed a vanilla one, don't restart. Convert it. Here's everything you need — trap, saddle, controls, builds.

↖ Vanilla vs Evo: What Changed
| Feature | Vanilla | Evo |
|---|---|---|
| Spawns | Standard | Replaces all wild Therizinos |
| Saddle | Vanilla saddle | New Evo saddle, same unlock level |
| Combat | Basic attacks | Claw sharpening, combos, 180° swipe |
| Harvesting | Great | Great + 25% wood weight reduction |
| Old tames | N/A | Convertible via radial menu |
↖ Converting an Existing Tame
Already have a leveled Therizino? Convert it. Radial menu, one click.
| Kept | Lost |
|---|---|
| Level, stats, imprints | Old saddle (unequips) |
| Inventory | — |
Crafted saddles convert too — stats carry over. Don't panic when the old saddle pops into inventory. That's normal.
↖ Saddle: Level 69, Same as Vanilla
No new grind required. If you can already saddle a Therizino, you can saddle the Evo. Convert your old saddle or craft fresh — either keeps stats.
↖ Where to Find One
Wild spawns replace vanilla Therizinos, so hit the same forests and swamp edges you already know.
- Scout from the air first.
- Don't land blind — these things hit hard and move fast through brush.
- Lose visual for 10 seconds, and you'll likely eat a claw combo you didn't see coming.
Advisory: If you see an Alpha, back off. It is not a fair fight without prep.
| Variant | Action |
|---|---|
| Normal | Trap and tame safely |
| Paleo variant | Requires Paleo ARK Ascension mod |
| Alpha | Avoid without gear + saddle |
↖ Taming Method: Gate Trap, Every Time
This is a knockout tame. In our testing, kiting it around rocks gets people killed. A stone gate trap is the only method worth using.
↖ Supplies
| Item | Amount | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Stone Dino Gateways | 4–5 | Trap walls |
| Reinforced Dino Gates | 2–3 | Safe closure |
| Crossbow / Longneck | 1+ | Torpor damage |
| Tranq Arrows/Darts | Extra | High-level = more needed |
| Exceptional Kibble | Plenty | Fastest, best-effectiveness food |
| Narcotics/Bio Toxin | Plenty | Keeps it under |
| Decent Armor | — | You will get clipped |
↖ Step-by-Step
1. Build the trap — box or corridor, leave one gate open.
2. Lure it in. If it turns away, close distance briefly to re-aggro, then keep leading.
3. Close the gate the second it's inside. Hesitate, and it escapes.
4. Knock it out. Griffin rider = safest angle. No Griffin? Trap near a cliff, grapple up, shoot from height.
5. Feed it. Exceptional Kibble > berries > algae. Kibble is faster and preserves taming effectiveness — worth the extra effort for a high-level tame.
6. Clear the area. Raptors, Carno, Kaprosuchus love ruining unconscious tames. Swamp taming? Double-check your flanks.
Common mistake: taming in open ground. It closes distance too fast. Trap it — every time.
↖ Controls & Combat Abilities
| Input | Ability | Use |
|---|---|---|
| LMB | Claw attack | Main damage |
| LMB x2 + Space | Double claw combo | Burst damage |
| Look back + LMB | 180° swipe | Hits enemies behind you |
| RMB | Claw finger | Fiber + rare flower harvest |
| C | Bite | Hide + berry harvest |
| Hold R | Sharpen claws | 2x armor penetration, 20s, 30s cooldown |
| Hold R → Sit | Sit | Utility/cosmetic |
Combat loop: Sharpen claws → open with LMB → combo for burst → 180° swipe if flanked → bite for loot → reposition during cooldown.
Strength: Kaprosuchus generally won't target it — huge for swamp runs.
Weakness: Not as tanky as a boss Rex. Invest in a strong saddle before serious fights.
↖ Harvesting: Delicate vs Power
| Resource | Best Input | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Fiber | RMB | Top-tier rate |
| Rare Flowers | RMB | Best in class |
| Berries/Hide | C (bite) | Solid post-kill loot |
| Wood | Power harvest | 25% weight reduction |
Delicate harvesting = fiber + rare flowers. Pick this if you're crafting saddles, armor, or consumables.
Power harvesting = wood. Pick this if you need base materials fast.
| Wood | Normal Weight | Evo Weight |
|---|---|---|
| 500 | 250 | 187.5 |
| 1,000 | 500 | 375 |
Only running one Therizino? Mixed build works fine.
↖ Stat Priorities
| Build | Priority Order |
|---|---|
| Combat | Health → Melee → Stamina |
| Harvesting | Weight → Stamina → Melee |
| Swamp Travel | Health → Stamina → Weight |
↖ Best Use Cases
| Use | Rating |
|---|---|
| Fiber/Flower farming | Excellent |
| Wood gathering | Good |
| Combat mount | Very Good |
| Swamp travel | Very Good |
| Base defense | Good |
↖ Mistakes That Get Tames (and Players) Killed
- Open-ground taming — it closes distance too fast. Use a trap.
- Too few tranqs — high-level creatures eat through torpor damage fast. Overpack.
- Berries on a high-level target — fine in an emergency, painfully slow otherwise.
- Skipping area clear — a wandering Carno will ruin your unconscious tame.
- Fighting an Alpha unprepared — just don't.
↖ FAQ
↖ Do I need to hunt a separate creature for the Evo Therizinosaurus?
No. It replaces wild vanilla Therizinos once Paleo ARK Evolution is installed. Existing tames convert via the radial menu.
↖ What's the fastest taming food?
Exceptional Kibble. Berries and algae work but take longer and can hurt overall taming effectiveness on high-level creatures.
↖ What level does the Evo saddle unlock?
Level 69 — identical to the vanilla Therizino saddle.
↖ What does claw sharpening actually do?
2x armor penetration for 20 seconds, 30-second cooldown. Pop it before engaging tanky or armored targets.
↖ Is it safe to fight an Alpha variant?
Not without prep. Alphas hit significantly harder than normal spawns — gear up, saddle up, or skip it.
↖ Bottom Line
Trap it, don't chase it. Feed it kibble if you can. Convert old tames instead of retaming from scratch. Once it's yours, build it for the job you need — delicate harvesting for fiber and flowers, power harvesting for wood, or a combat spec for a swamp-ready brawler that laughs off Kaprosuchus. Find a good level, and this thing earns its keep fast.
