D4 Season 14 Patch 3.1.1: The Superior Lair Key Farm That Breaks Mythic Drops
One patch note line just broke the Mythic economy. Death Toll Chambers now guarantee at least one Superior Lair Key on High Torment. That's it. That's the whole trigger.
Before this, you farmed Lair Bosses and prayed Duriel invaded. Random spawn, random 1-9 keys. Half the time you got nothing.

↖ Why This Actually Matters
Superior Lair Keys gate the entire Nemesis Lair chain — the highest-loot content in the game right now. Before Patch 3.1.1, most players sat on 2-3 keys and never touched Ultimate Nemesis Lairs.
Guaranteed drops change the math completely. If you're clearing Death Toll Chambers on repeat, you're never bottlenecked again.

↖ Step 1: Realm Walker, Every 20 Minutes
Fastest guaranteed key in the game. No skill required.
1. Light the three altars.
2. Kill the Realm Walker.
3. Loot the Death Toll Chamber. Key secured.
Set a timer. Do this every cycle, no exceptions.
↖ Step 2: Nightmare Dungeon Ruptures (Fill the Gap)
Between Realm Walker timers, run Ruptures. First, set up your Helltide tree correctly:
- Night Terrors + Meat Brothers together.
- This swaps Hellborne ambushes for Butchers — huge XP, huge Mindcage drops.
Then run it:
1. Enter dungeon, find the Rupture.
2. Close 15 tiers fast.
3. Death Toll Chamber unlocks. Clear it. Key secured.
Solo, expect 4-6 minutes per cycle. With one friend splitting tiers, that drops to 1-2 minutes. Group up if you can — the time savings are not subtle.
↖ Step 3: Helltide Cultist Rupture (Bonus, Not Primary)
Look for the big orange Rupture with a cultist inside active Helltides. Closing it can open a Death Toll Chamber — but it's not guaranteed, and it's slow.
Worth doing if you're already in a Helltide farming Cinders and Duriel invasions. Not worth chasing on its own.

↖ Spend the Keys: The Nemesis Lair Chain
Don't take the side path. Go straight through the middle option under Lair Boss activities.

Ultimate Nemesis Lairs hit hard. But the loot volume is the whole point — players were pulling Mythics from this fight even before the guaranteed-key patch. Now you can run it on repeat instead of once a week.
↖ Target Farming Specific Mythics
This is the fix that matters most for build-focused players. Lair Bosses can now drop their unique as a Mythic directly. Before, the drop source didn't matter — you could farm the exact boss for weeks and never see the Mythic version because the bug blocked it.
Now the boss that drops your target unique is the boss you farm. Check Diablofilters.com for boss-to-drop mapping before you commit to a farming loop. Since you're already killing Lair Bosses for keys, pick the one that also drops what you want.
↖ Don't Run Dry: Refilling Normal and Greater Keys
The Nemesis chain eats normal keys fast. Two ways to keep supply up:
- Helltide + Urivar's Rot node → hunt Bursting Brood events during Duriel invasions. Guaranteed normal and Greater Lair Keys, no exceptions.
- Subo Cabalist rank leveled → Purveyor cache passively drops normal + Greater keys alongside Pale Marks.
Even outside the Nemesis chain, surplus keys mean unlimited Citadel of the Damned runs against the Council of the Deceiver — still the best route for perfect Greater Affix uniques.
↖ Crafting Side: Pandemonium Fragments Got Cheaper
Two changes here:
- Glint of Hope caches now guarantee Pandemonium Fragments, every time.
- Horadric Cube craft cost dropped from 5 fragments to 4.
You still only equip one crafted Mythic. But cheaper, more frequent crafting means more shots at rolling the right Greater Affixes — actual damage multipliers, not Life on Hit filler.
Case in point: crafted a Bloodless Scream, landed Crit Strike Damage + Darkness Skills. Could've easily rolled two dead stats instead, and the base unique would've outperformed it. More attempts = better odds at a roll worth wearing.
↖ The Problem Nobody's Fixed Yet
One crafted Mythic. That's still the cap.
All this farming efficiency, and you're still limited to a single slot. Compare that to Season of Chaotic Uniques — players ran 3-4 stacked uniques, hit absurd multipliers, and nobody complained it was too strong. It was just fun.
If the equip cap gets lifted to two or three, this farm method becomes the best thing in the game. Until then, we're farming a fully unlocked key economy that still funnels into one item slot.

↖ How many Superior Lair Keys can we farm per hour?
Solo, running Realm Walker + NM Dungeon Ruptures back-to-back: 6-10 keys/hour. Add a second player splitting tiers, and that number climbs fast since the dungeon loop scales with party size.
↖ Do we still need Duriel invasions for keys?
No. Duriel still drops keys if he shows up, but Death Toll Chambers guarantee one now. Farm the guaranteed route first, treat Duriel as a bonus.
↖ What's the fastest way to refill normal Lair Keys?
Helltide + Urivar's Rot node, targeting Bursting Brood events. Guaranteed normal and Greater keys every time, no RNG involved.
↖ Ultimate Nemesis Lair or Citadel of the Damned — which first?
Chasing a specific Mythic? Push the Nemesis chain to Ultimate. Chasing perfect Greater Affix uniques instead? Citadel of the Damned is still the better use of surplus keys.

No official word yet. Based on how well Chaotic Uniques landed last season, raising the cap seems likely eventually — but nothing's confirmed in 3.1.1.

Patch 3.1.1 turned Superior Lair Keys from a lottery ticket into a repeatable farm. Realm Walker every 20 minutes, Nightmare Dungeon Ruptures in between, occasional Helltide bonus runs — that's the loop.
Feed those keys into the Nemesis Lair chain, target the right Lair Boss for your Mythic, and craft cheaper Mythics with the fragment cost cut. The system finally rewards effort instead of luck.
The only thing holding this season back is the single Mythic equip slot. Fix that, and this farm becomes the best loot loop D4 has had in years.
