Forget everything you know about Archer being the stand far away and pray class.

MapleStory Classic World Ranger Guide: Skills, Build & Meta Tier List

This version of Ranger fights. Power Knockback clears trash at melee range. Wind Step gets you in and out before mobs punish you. Arrow Rain now hits twice — no cooldown. You're not kiting anymore. You're controlling the fight.

First Job: Power Knockback Changes Everything

Power Knockback hits 4 monsters for 180% at 8 MP. That's better mobbing than most Warriors get in first job.

Skill Damage Targets Cost
Power Knockback 180% 4 8 MP
Warrior Slash Blast 130% 4 8 HP + 12 MP
Double Shot Single-target 1 Varies

Point pressure is real. Critical Shot, Eye of the Amazon, and Power Knockback all compete for the same limited SP.

Build it this way:

  • Aggressive mobber? Power Knockback + Critical Shot.
  • Classic ranged player? Critical Shot + Eye of the Amazon first.
  • Surrounded constantly? Power Knockback stops being optional. It's your panic button.

Second Job: Quiet Buffs That Actually Matter

Bow Mastery now gives evasion, not accuracy. You didn't need the accuracy anyway. Fewer hits taken = fewer pots burned.

Amazon's Judgment is the sleeper pick: crits have a 100% chance to slow enemies by 35 for 5 seconds at max. Slowed mobs hit you less. That's just math.

Final Attack got a toggle. At max: 50% trigger, 3 hits, 90% each = 270% bonus damage. Turn it off when you need to move. Keep it on when you're farming stationary spawns.

Skill Key Stat Why It Matters
Bow Mastery Evasion Fewer hits = fewer pots
Amazon's Judgment 100% slow chance Safer grinding, no cost
Final Attack 270% total dmg Toggleable, big damage add
Arrow Bomb 4 targets Still fine, outclassed by Arrow Rain later

Third Job: This Is Where Ranger Pops Off

Arrow Rain — Max This First

Listed as 120% damage, but it hits twice = 240% real output. No cooldown in testing.

Version Listed % Hits Real Total
Old 160% 1 160%
Current 120% 2240%

This is Ranger's mobbing engine. If it stays this way at launch, it's the single best reason to main this class.

Strafe — Your Bossing Tool

Levels up to a 4-hit skill at 100% each = 400% total on a single target. In testing with clean lv.70 gear, Ranger hit roughly 4,000 total damage with Strafe — noticeably ahead of other 3rd jobs at the same benchmark.

Wind Step — Ground Dash, Not Flash Jump

1-second cooldown. Ground-only. Don't expect aerial mobility — use it as a reset button:

  • Dash out after Arrow Rain
  • Dodge contact damage
  • Reposition before Strafe

Support Skills

Skill Max Stats Use Case
Silver Hawk 100 ATK, 100% stun 1.5s Costs Summoning Rocks — save for hard maps
Puppet 6,000 HP, 60s Place behind terrain, not in open ground
Inferno 175% fire dmg + 75% DoT Good opener, especially vs fire-weak mobs
Mortal Blow 90% chance, 200% dmg Skip-tax skill — just take it to unlock the rest

Build Priority Cheat Sheet

1st Job: Critical Shot > Eye of the Amazon > Power Knockback

2nd Job: Bow Mastery > Final Attack > Amazon's Judgment > Arrow Bomb

3rd Job:Arrow Rain + Strafe + Wind Step first — everything else is flexible

Actual Mobbing Loop

1. Inferno to open (if grouped/fire-weak)

2. Arrow Rain for the double-hit clear

3. Wind Step out immediately

4. Power Knockback if they're already on top of you

5. Puppet when you need a breather

6. Silver Hawk for stun-lock while you finish up

Don't stand in the pack after Arrow Rain waiting for mobs to be polite. They won't be.

Strengths vs Weaknesses

Strengths Weaknesses
Best-in-class mobbing (Arrow Rain)No jump attack — feels stiff on vertical maps
Reliable bossing via Strafe Wind Step is ground-only
Multiple control layers (slow/stun/knockback) Final Attack can animation-lock you
Strong lv.70 damage benchmark Puppet/Hawk eat Summoning Rocks
Real mobility via Wind Step Arrow Rain looks overtuned — nerf risk

Where Ranger Shines (and Where It Doesn't)

Good maps: medium density, flat platforms, mobs that walk toward you, fire-weak enemies.

Bad maps: heavy verticality, ranged-magic mobs, scattered spawns, anything requiring constant jumping.

FAQ

Is Arrow Rain worth maxing?

Yes. 120% listed but hits twice for 240% real damage, no cooldown. Top priority if this holds at launch.

Is Strafe good for bossing?

Yes. Max level is 4 hits at 100% each (400% total). Hit ~4,000 damage in lv.70 gear testing — ahead of comparable 3rd jobs.

Is Wind Step the same as Flash Jump?

No. Ground-only, 1-second cooldown. Treat it as a dash/reset, not an aerial tool.

Should I max Power Knockback in first job?

If you're mobbing aggressively or getting swarmed, yes — 180% to 4 targets is too good to skip. If you play classic ranged style, it's optional.

What's Ranger's biggest risk?

Arrow Rain is likely overtuned and could get nerfed before launch. Also, Puppet and Silver Hawk both cost Summoning Rocks, which could get expensive over time.

Bottom Line

Ranger tested as a top-three 3rd job in this build. Arrow Rain carries mobbing, Strafe carries bossing, Wind Step carries mobility, and the control kit (slow/stun/knockback/puppet) keeps you alive without babysitting your HP bar.

The catch: Arrow Rain is probably getting nerfed, and Summoning Rock costs could bite you long-term. Play it now while it's strong — just don't build your entire late-game identity around numbers that might not survive to launch.
