MW4 Beta Guide: Maps, Weapons, Perks, and the Fastest Way to Level 20

The MW4 Beta is live, and most players are about to waste their first two hours fumbling through menus instead of playing. Don't be that guy.

MW4 Beta Guide: Maps, Weapons, Perks, and the Fastest Way to Level 20

Here's the no-nonsense breakdown: what to install first, what to unlock first, which maps punish bad habits, and which loadouts actually hold up under pressure.

Preload First. Seriously.

Beta launch windows always come with server queues and download bottlenecks. Preload now, not on launch day.

Access TypeWhat To Do
Digital preorder Beta access is tied to your account — install now
Code redemption Check email/spam, redeem immediately
Battle.net/launcher Restart launcher if content packs stall
Open beta No preorder needed — preload early to skip congestion

Players who preload spend launch hour playing, not troubleshooting.

Weekend 1 vs Weekend 2

PeriodLevel CapFocus
Weekend 1 20 Core MP, early weapons, maps, movement
Weekend 2 30 More weapons, more unlocks, Warzone Resurgence

Starting Weekend 1? Grind to 20, learn every system, save Weekend 2 for the extras. Starting Weekend 2? You go 1-to-30 in one shot, but you'll have less time to learn map flow before it ends.

Warm Up Before You Queue

Campaign Mission: Entrenched

A nuclear power station assault with infantry and armor support. Use it to test gunplay, recoil, aim assist, and FOV before enemy players start slide-canceling around every corner.

  • Full campaign early access: October 16 (eligible preorders)
  • Full launch: October 23

Mobility Course

One-player training ground for movement and gun handling. 10-15 minutes here saves you from bad habits later.

Overshooting targets? Lower horizontal/vertical sensitivity. Tracking feels sluggish? Bump ADS sensitivity in small steps — don't overcorrect.

Progression: Get to Level 4 Fast

Everything opens up at Level 4 — that's when Create-a-Class unlocks.

LevelUnlock
1 Beta starts
4Create-a-Class
20 Weekend 1 cap
30 Weekend 2 cap

Skip the KD-chasing early. Domination and Hardpoint give more consistent XP than pure TDM kill-farming.

Create-a-Class

  • Up to 12 custom loadouts
  • 21 operators available, assigned per class
  • Build around role, not aesthetics — aggressive SMG class, objective AR class, stealth S&D class

Day 1 Loadout Logic

PlaystyleSetup
New player Low-recoil rifle, defensive perks, basic equipment
Objective grinder AR/SMG + trophy support + lethal for clearing points
Rusher SMG, mobility perks, entry tacticals
S&D main Suppressed weapon, intel perk, patient lethal use
XP farmer One weapon, unlock attachments fast, then rotate

Stop switching weapons every match. Pick one primary, learn its close/mid/long behavior, then branch out.

Weapons and Apex Attachments

CategoryCount
Total MP weapons19 across 9 classes
Weekend 1 access14
Weekend 2 adds 5 more
Bonus (campaign/default) 3
Total accessible22

Expect two or three reliable rifles and one dominant SMG to define the early meta.

Apex Attachments are the big deal here — fully level a weapon and unlock a unique effect that doesn't eat a normal attachment slot. No trade-off between a grip and a special ability. Prioritize leveling your main early.

Weapon Test Cycle

1. Shoot a wall in Firing Range — check raw recoil

2. Track moving targets — check aim stability

3. Sprint-to-fire test — check close-range readiness

4. Play one objective match — check real pressure

5. Adjust attachments based on what broke

Weapon feels great in the range but dies in matches? It's ADS speed or damage range, not recoil.

Perks, Equipment, Killstreaks

SystemWeekend 1Weekend 2 Adds
Perks (pick-3) 17 of 18 3 more (Lvl 21-30)
Tactical equipment Majority of 9 2 more
Lethal equipment Majority of 11 3 more
Field upgrades Majority of 11 2 more
Killstreaks (max 3 equipped) 8 of 17 2 more

Run low-cost killstreaks early. Beta matches are chaos — cheaper streaks earn value faster than flashy expensive ones you rarely call in.

Small maps: prioritize speed and explosive resistance. S&D: prioritize stealth and intel.

Modes: What To Play First

ModeBest For
Team Deathmatch Testing raw weapon feel
Domination Fast, consistent XP
Hardpoint Aggressive build testing + XP
Kill Confirmed Map awareness, movement
Search and Destroy Tactical decision-making
Inflation New mode — learn the rules before the meta forms

Leveling fast? Hardpoint/Domination. Sharpening aim? TDM/Kill Confirmed. Testing your nerve? S&D.

Weekend 1 Maps: The Real Breakdown

MapThemePlaystyleLoadout
Rooftops Snow-covered NYC hotel Vertical, elevated routes AR / mobile rifle
Silkworm South Korean shopping district Fast, unpredictable close-mid SMG / compact AR
Transit 213 Overgrown Indian bus depot Small-map chaos, blocked sightlines SMG / shotgun / fast AR
Cachet French rail terminal hideout Flanking, containers, interiors Versatile AR/SMG
Lotus Korean fishing village Mixed close + long angles AR + close secondary
Killblock Compact prison combat space High-pressure engagements SMG / aggressive rifle

Rooftops — stop sprinting through open lanes; clear high ground first or you'll eat fire from above.

Silkworm — pop tacticals before pushing interiors. Dry-pushing a shop is a free kill for the defender.

Transit 213 — looks like Shipment, plays slower. Buses create real lane-blocking. Build for speed and fast reloads.

Cachet — flanks never stop. Use equipment to block routes instead of chasing every red dot.

Lotus — the strongest all-rounder map. AR-friendly overall, but SMGs dominate inside tight streets.

Killblock — best map for camo grinding and fast weapon leveling. Skip it if you want long-range recoil practice.

Warzone Resurgence (Weekend 2)

FeatureDetail
Mode Resurgence
MapZodiac
AvailabilityWeekend 2 only
Setting Drone manufacturing HQ — offices, rooftops, tunnels, shoreline
Loadouts Default Warzone builds

Core loop: stay alive, shorten redeploy timers, don't ego-challenge. One survivor keeps the whole squad in the fight — burn utility wisely and hold cover during final circles.

Rewards and Twitch Drops

TypeHow to Earn
Beta level rewards Hit specific levels
Milestone rewards Complete listed challenges
Twitch Drops Watch eligible streams — link account first
Weekend progression Play both weekends

Link your account before you start watching drops. The most common mistake is watching first and linking after — you get nothing for that time.

The Day 1 Action Plan

StepAction
1 Preload, verify access
2 Set FOV, sensitivity, audio
3 Run the Mobility Course
4 Play Entrenched (campaign)
5 Hit Level 4
6 Build one AR class + one SMG class
7 Grind Domination/Hardpoint
8 Test weapons in Firing Range between matches
9 Push to Level 20
10 Note Weekend 2 unlocks in advance

Settings and Habits That Actually Matter

SettingAction
FOV Raise until visibility improves, not until targets shrink too much
Motion blurOff
Film grain Reduce or disable
Audio mix Pick whatever makes footsteps readable
ProblemFix
Dying after sprinting Slow down, pre-aim corners
Losing close fights Improve sprint-to-fire speed
Losing long fights Run ARs, lower recoil, stop jump-spamming
Objectives keep falling Block entries with lethals/field upgrades
Getting flanked constantly Watch side lanes, stop stacking one route

If the game feels off, check your sensitivity and FOV before blaming the gun.

FAQ

What's the MW4 Beta level cap?

20 in Weekend 1, 30 in Weekend 2. Starting in Weekend 2 lets you go 1-30 directly.

When does Create-a-Class unlock?

Level 4. After that you get up to 12 custom loadouts with full weapon/perk/killstreak control.

How many weapons are in the beta?

19 multiplayer weapons, 14 available in Weekend 1. Total accessible across the whole beta (including campaign/default) is 22.

What are Apex Attachments?

Weapon-specific upgrades unlocked by fully leveling a gun. They add a unique effect without taking a normal attachment slot — a straight-up power boost, no trade-off.

Is Warzone in Weekend 1?

No. Warzone Resurgence drops in Weekend 2 on the Zodiac map.

Bottom Line

Weekend 1 is a systems check, not a highlight reel. Preload early, warm up in the Mobility Course, hit Level 4 fast, lock in one AR class and one SMG class, and grind Domination/Hardpoint to 20. Learn Rooftops' verticality, Transit 213's lane-blocking, and Cachet's flank routes now — Weekend 2's extra weapons and Warzone Resurgence hit a lot harder once the fundamentals are already locked in.
