Chief Bandit is fast, slippery, and hits like a truck once you learn to move right. Flash Jump has no cooldown, Assaulter works in the air, and Meso Guard turns you into a tank — as long as your wallet can handle it.

But it's not all smooth. Band of Thieves only hits what's in front of you now. No more clearing both sides at once. Here's everything you need to know before you commit.

↖ Class Overview
Chief Bandit rewards positioning, not button-mashing.
| Category | Rating | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Mobility | S-Tier | Flash Jump + Haste + Assaulter |
| Survivability | Very High | Meso Guard, block, avoid, Chakra heal |
| Single-target DPS | Strong | Savage Blow, Assaulter |
| Mobbing | Mixed | Directional Band of Thieves hurts |
| Cost | High | Meso Guard eats your mesos |
| Learning curve | Medium-High | Positioning > raw damage |
↖ First Job: Go Sindit
Take Lucky Seven, not Double Stab. Early Bandit range is garbage — you'll eat hits constantly trying to melee.
- Lucky Seven route: Safer, cheaper on pots, easier leveling. This is the practical pick.
- Double Stab route: Classic feel, but rougher. If you go this way, buy a Stolen Fence from Lith Harbor for early shield block.
- Max Dark Sight regardless. It links to Chakra in third job — HP recovery while dodging aggro. Not just a stealth gimmick anymore.
↖ Second Job: Bandit Skill Priorities
| Skill | Key Value | Priority |
|---|---|---|
| Dagger Mastery | +20% crit, 20% stance at max | 1 |
| Savage Blow | 75% x 6 hits, core damage | 2 |
| Haste | +30 speed, +10 jump | 3 |
| Steal | 180% dmg, 90% steal, +35 ATK buff (30s) | 4 |
| Nimble Recovery | 10% HP/MP on evade, 30s cooldown | 5 |
Dagger Mastery is the real MVP now. 20% stance chance this early is unheard of — fewer knockback interruptions, smoother grinding.
Keep Steal's buff up. Damage feeling low? Check if it dropped. Simple habit, big difference.
Nimble Recovery sounds sexy, isn't. 30s cooldown kills its sustain potential. Treat it as a bonus, not a strategy.
↖ Third Job: Chief Bandit Breakdown
↖ Flash Jump — No Cooldown, Huge Win
Post-August 11 update, zero cooldown. This alone makes Chief Bandit one of the most mobile classes in the game.
Note: it's old-style Flash Jump — manual activation after jumping, not the modern auto-feel version.
↖ Assaulter — Strong Damage, Awkward Movement
600% damage, 100% stun (2s) at max level. Now usable in the air.
Problem: travel distance now depends on proximity and terrain, not a fixed distance like before.
- Too close to target? Barely moves you.
- Sloped terrain? Inconsistent, sometimes lands you right back in danger.
- You often end up just behind the monster — still in hit range.
Fix: Flash Jump first to create space, then Assaulter. Takes practice, but once it clicks, movement feels incredible.
↖ Band of Thieves — The Weak Link
220% damage, 5 summoned thieves, up to 6 targets hit — but only in front of you.
This is a downgrade from the old hits around your character version. Surrounded by mobs? You only clear one side.
Workaround:
- Group monsters in front before casting.
- Never cast mid-split-pack — waste of cooldown.
- Use Assaulter to reposition behind/through mobs, then turn and cast.
- Treat it as a frontal cleave, not an AoE.
↖ Chakra — Dark Sight Healing
Below 50% HP, entering Dark Sight triggers healing — up to 45% HP over 3 seconds at max level. Cooldown: 30s.
Practical use: HP dropping fast? Dark Sight instead of panic-potting. Drops aggro and heals for free. You can still move during recovery.
↖ Meso Guard — Powerful, Not Free
Blocks 50% damage, costs 40% of blocked damage in mesos.
| Incoming Dmg | Blocked | You Take | Meso Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1,000 | 500 | 500 | 200 |
| 2,000 | 1,000 | 1,000 | 400 |
| 5,000 | 2,500 | 2,500 | 1,000 |
Your wallet becomes part of your HP bar. Use it in dangerous maps and boss fights. Turn it off when farming trash mobs — no reason to bleed mesos there.
↖ Pickpocket & Meso Explosion
Pickpocket: 60% chance per hit to drop mesos. Pairs great with multi-hit Savage Blow.
Meso Explosion: Nerfed hard from old versions.
| Mechanic | Old | Now |
|---|---|---|
| Max mesos exploded | 20 | 15 |
| Pickpocket drop cap | Unlimited-ish | 15 active |
| Max mastery | — | 150% |
Don't expect boss-melting damage like the classic private-server days. It's controlled now — still useful, not busted.
↖ Skill Build Priority (Quick Reference)
First Job: Lucky Seven → Dark Sight → core Rogue skills → Double Stab (optional)
Second Job: Dagger Mastery → Savage Blow → Haste → Steal → Nimble Recovery
Third Job: Flash Jump → Assaulter → Meso Guard → Band of Thieves → Chakra → Pickpocket → Meso Explosion
Grinding dangerous maps? Bump Meso Guard up. Farming safe mobs? Prioritize damage/mobility instead.
↖ Training Rhythm That Actually Works
1. Haste before moving through the map.
2. Keep Steal's buff alive.
3. Group mobs on one side.
4. Band of Thieves for frontal clears.
5. Assaulter on priority targets / gap closing.
6. Dark Sight → Chakra when HP dips below 50%.
7. Meso Guard on when damage gets scary.
↖ Gear Notes
Clean level 70 gear works, but don't expect top-tier screen-clearing damage — this class's strength is defense and mobility, not raw burst.
| Priority | Why |
|---|---|
| Dagger ATK | Direct skill scaling |
| Shield | Block chance + survivability |
| LUK | Damage + avoidability |
| HP gear | Survives harder maps |
| Mesos | Feeds Meso Guard + Meso Explosion |
Underfunded = Meso Guard hurts more than it helps sometimes. Moderately funded = the class feels amazing.
↖ FAQ
↖ Is Chief Bandit good in MapleStory Classic World?
Yes. Mobility and survivability are top-tier thanks to Flash Jump, Assaulter, Meso Guard, and Chakra. Main weakness: Band of Thieves only hits forward now.
↖ Should I start as Bandit or Sindit?
Go Sindit with Lucky Seven. Safer range, cheaper leveling. Double Stab is playable but you'll eat more hits early on.
↖ Is Assaulter still good despite the movement changes?
Yes — 600% damage, guaranteed stun, air-usable. Just watch out for slopes and close-range casts landing you awkwardly.
↖ Why does Band of Thieves feel weaker now?
It only hits monsters in front of you, unlike the old hits around your character version. Group mobs on one side before casting to compensate.
↖ Is Meso Guard worth using all the time?
Only in dangerous content. It costs 40% of blocked damage in mesos — great for bosses and hard maps, wasteful on easy farming spots.
↖ Bottom Line
Chief Bandit is fast, defensive, and mechanically deep — Flash Jump with no cooldown, air Assaulter, Meso Guard, and Chakra healing make it one of the safest and most mobile third jobs around.
The rough edges — directional Band of Thieves and inconsistent Assaulter movement on slopes — are annoying but fixable, not dealbreakers.
Play it safe early with Lucky Seven, max Dark Sight for the Chakra payoff, keep Steal's buff running, and use Meso Guard where it actually matters. Master the positioning, and this class turns into one of the most satisfying builds in MapleStory Classic World.
