Star Citizen Alpha 4.10 Release Guide: What to Do Before Launch & What's New

Star Citizen Alpha 4.10 is entering its final testing phase, and there is plenty to prepare for.

This is not a full wipe patch, but temporary data can still be lost or reset. Refinery jobs, crafting, consumables, and spawn settings are the main things we should deal with before the transition.

The patch also adds Siege of Orison, new Orison relief missions, Recco Baglaga story content in Nyx, major fuel changes, persistence improvements, and the Krüger Stingray.

Star Citizen Alpha 4.10 Release Guide: What to Do Before Launch & What's New

Here is what we should actually do.

Star Citizen Alpha 4.10 Pre-Launch Checklist

Task Priority Action
Refinery jobs High Finish and collect them
Crafting High Complete active jobs
Character customization High Save your appearance
Home location High Choose your 4.10 starting point
Consumables Medium Avoid carrying unnecessary temporary stock
PTU files Optional Keep them if you want to reduce the live download
Shader cache Optional Clear it if you encounter post-patch issues

Finish Refinery and Crafting Jobs

Do not leave valuable refinery jobs running through the 4.9 → 4.10 transition.

Major patches can discard temporary database states. The same applies to crafting.

If something is almost finished, collect it before the patch. There is little upside to gambling on persistence.

Save Your Character Appearance

Character customization is another small thing worth protecting.

If your appearance resets, you do not want to rebuild it from memory.

Choose Your Home Location

Your first location should match your immediate objective.

Goal Recommended Start
Siege of OrisonOrison
Recco Baglaga missionsNyx
General testing Your normal home location

If you want to hit Siege immediately, spawning at Orison saves unnecessary travel.

What's New in Star Citizen Alpha 4.10?

The important additions fit into a few categories.

Feature Why It Matters
Siege of Orison New instanced PvE activity
Orison Relief Missions Additional Orison gameplay
Recco Baglaga New Nyx story missions
Quantum/Hydrogen changes Changes ship range and route planning
Persistence improvements Better long-term state handling
Krüger Stingray New medium fighter
Server fixes Better stability and load handling
NPC fixes More reliable mission behavior

Siege of Orison: Start With a Four-Player Group

Siege of Orison is the headline feature of Alpha 4.10.

For practical PvE, we recommend starting with around four players.

A coordinated group is far more reliable than trying to brute-force everything alone.

Siege of Orison Problems to Watch

The PTU builds have exposed several instance-related issues:

Instance creation delays

Incorrect completion states

Instance rebuilding problems

Streaming stalls

Elevator delays

NPC behavior after server recovery

If the Siege elevator or transition appears frozen, give it time before restarting the client. Streaming an instance can take noticeably longer than expected.

The latest fixes are aimed at making the process much cleaner: create the instance, enter it, and play without unnecessary rebuilding.

Recco Baglaga and Nyx Missions

Alpha 4.10 adds new Recco Baglaga story content in Nyx.

Some reputation and mission requirements may still change between PTU and live.

That means we should not treat every PTU requirement as final.

If you want to play the new story content immediately, set your home location near Nyx and be ready to check the live mission requirements after launch.

Alpha 4.10 Fuel Changes: Relearn Your Ship's Range

The quantum and hydrogen fuel changes are easy to overlook.

Do not.

Changes to fuel consumption and effective ship range can alter how useful a ship feels without changing its weapons or armor.

Activity What to Do
Long-distance travel Check fuel before departure
Exploration Plan refueling points
Combat Keep enough fuel for the return trip
New ship testing Measure real range instead of relying on old numbers

If your usual route suddenly requires another fuel stop, that is not necessarily a bug. Recheck your route planning after 4.10.

Krüger Stingray: New Medium Fighter

The Krüger Stingray is expected alongside the 4.10 launch.

Its exact price was not confirmed in the supplied testing information, although the working expectation was roughly $180–$220.

Treat that as an estimate, not an official price.

The Stingray looks excellent. That does not automatically make it a must-buy.

If your hangar already contains fighters covering the same role, wait for live testing before spending real money.

Question Practical Answer
New fighter? Yes
Visually distinctive? Absolutely
Automatic upgrade? No
Buy immediately? Wait for live performance
Need it to play 4.10? No

Alpha 4.10 Performance and Bug Fixes

The release candidate includes a substantial batch of technical fixes.

The most useful ones target problems we actually notice while playing.

System Current Fix Direction
Server performance Load balancing improvements
Siege of Orison Instance creation/recovery fixes
NPC AI Better recovery after server crashes
ASOP More reliable ship spawning
Freight elevators Reduced cargo duplication
Elevators Collision fixes
Refueling More reliable contracts
Item recovery Exploit/state fixes
Nyx missions Additional mission fixes

ASOP and Elevator Fixes

ASOP terminals have had problems with unavailable buttons and failed ship spawning.

If your ship refuses to spawn, try another terminal before assuming the ship is lost.

Elevator collision fixes are equally important. Falling through floors is funny once. It gets old very quickly.

Freight Elevator Duplication

Cargo duplication is more than a minor bug.

It can become an economy exploit.

The 4.10 fixes targeting cargo duplication are therefore important for the wider game economy, not just individual cargo runs.

Linux Players: Check Compatibility Before Launch

Linux players should be more cautious with 4.10.

Recent testing exposed serious compatibility problems involving Easy Anti-Cheat, including reports of significant audio issues.

If you play Star Citizen through Linux, check the latest compatibility reports before assuming the live build will work normally.

This is one area where waiting for a hotfix may be the correct strategy.

How to Prepare the Star Citizen Launcher

If you already have the PTU version installed, you may be able to reuse those files for the live build by renaming the PTU folder appropriately and allowing the launcher to verify the files.

The exact folder structure can change, so check the launcher after 4.10 releases.

Clear Your Shader Cache if Performance Gets Worse

Do not automatically blame your hardware after the patch.

If you suddenly experience:

Severe stuttering

New crashes

Graphical corruption

Unusual performance drops

then clear the shader cache and restart the game.

It is one of the simplest post-patch troubleshooting steps.

Alpha 4.10 Launch-Day Strategy

Do not make Siege of Orison your first test.

Use this order instead:

1. Log in and check your character.

2. Spawn a ship through ASOP.

3. Test quantum travel and fuel consumption.

4. Run a simple mission.

5. Check Orison and Nyx content.

6. Form a four-player group.

7. Run Siege of Orison.

Why this order?

It isolates problems.

If ship spawning is broken, we know where the problem is. If quantum range looks wrong, we can test it separately. If Siege fails afterward, we know the issue is probably instance-related rather than a general client problem.

That is much more useful than changing ten variables at once.

Will Alpha 4.10 Wipe Your Progress?

No full wipe is currently planned.

However, temporary data deserves caution.

Data Risk
Owned ships Low
Long-term progression Low
Reputation Expected to persist
Refinery jobs Higher risk
Crafting jobs Higher risk
Consumables May change/reset
Home location May need re-selection
Character appearance Back it up

The safest rule is simple:

Finish temporary work before the patch.

Alpha 4.10 FAQ

Will Star Citizen Alpha 4.10 wipe my character?

A full wipe is not currently planned. However, temporary data such as refinery jobs, crafting states, consumables, and spawn settings can be affected by a major patch transition.

What should I do before Alpha 4.10 launches?

Finish refinery and crafting jobs, save your character appearance, and choose your preferred home location. If you want to play Siege immediately, Orison is the obvious choice.

How many players should we use for Siege of Orison?

Start with around four players. It provides enough manpower for coordinated PvE without requiring a huge group.

Is the Krüger Stingray worth buying?

Not automatically. It is a new medium fighter with strong visual appeal, but we should wait for final price, configuration, durability, and live combat performance before treating it as a fleet upgrade.

Will Alpha 4.10 improve Star Citizen performance?

The release candidate includes server load-balancing and numerous performance and stability fixes. However, launch-day server congestion can still cause severe problems even if the underlying patch is technically better.

Summary

Alpha 4.10 is worth preparing for, but not worth panicking over.

Before launch, finish refinery and crafting jobs, save your character customization, and choose your home location.

After launch, test the basics first. Ship spawning, quantum travel, fuel consumption, and simple missions should come before Siege of Orison.

Then get a four-player group together and test the new instance properly.

The Stingray is interesting, but there is no reason to rush into a purchase. The bigger story is the combination of Siege of Orison, new Nyx content, fuel changes, persistence work, and server-side fixes.

And remember the most important Star Citizen launch rule:

If everything breaks on day one, wait for the hotfix before deciding that the entire patch is bad.
