Steel Springs disappear fast once you start crafting weapon mods and extended mags. Random looting won't cut it. You need a route.

This is the route we run: Primary Facility / Control Tower → Controlled Access Zone → Power Generation Complex → optional Hydroponic Dome. Clean runs hit 20-30 springs. Good RNG pushes that to 40+.

↖ Why Steel Springs Matter
Springs gate multiple crafting trees. Miss them, and your whole mod progression stalls.
| Use Case | Spring Pressure |
|---|---|
| Weapon Mods | High |
| Extended Magazines | Very High |
| Mod Components | High |
| Advanced Mechanical Components | High |
| Expedition Projects | Medium-High |
If you're always short, you're not unlucky. You're skipping conversion items.
↖ The Conversion Items You're Probably Ignoring
Half your spring count won't say Steel Spring on the ground. Learn these:
| Item | Spring Value | Key Rule |
|---|---|---|
| Rusted Tools | 1 Spring | Recycle post-extraction. Common everywhere. |
| Cooling Coil | 2 Springs | Prioritize over junk. |
| Turbo Pump | 3 Springs | Scavenge in-raid, not after extraction |
| Spring Cushion | Variable | Check when found |
| Ruined Accordion | Variable | Uncommon but useful |
| Advanced Mechanical Component | Indirect | Saves you a future craft |
Critical: Extracting with a Turbo Pump and recycling it later gives you oil and mechanical parts — not springs. If you want the 3-spring payout, scavenge it during the match.
↖ The Route
↖ Step 1: Below Control Tower / Primary Facility
Highest-density zone on the map. Start here.
Loot targets:
- Breachable steel containers
- Green drawers inside shipping containers
- Red toolboxes, carts, shelves
- Loose Rusted Tools and Steel Springs
If it looks industrial or mechanical, open it. Players sprint through and skip loose Rusted Tools sitting in the open — don't be that player.
Expected yield:
| Clear Quality | Springs |
|---|---|
| Poor/partial | 3-6 |
| Average | 7-12 |
| Strong + conversions | 12+ |
Leave with 8+ effective springs and you're on pace.
↖ Step 2: Controlled Access Zone
More breach points, lockers, drawers. More danger too — ARC patrols and player traffic pick up here. Weapon ready.
Check:
- Metal breach containers (direct springs)
- Lockers (Cooling Coils)
- Green drawers (Rusted Tools)
- Electrical/server breach points (Cooling Coils)
Area already looted? Don't leave. Check floors near breached containers, shelves behind lockers, unopened drawers. Most players ignore Rusted Tools and Cooling Coils because they don't know their conversion value — that's free springs for you.
↖ Step 3: Bus Area Near Power Generation
Quick stop. Don't linger.
| Spot | Finds |
|---|---|
| Side panels | Rusted Tools |
| Rear breach point | Rusted Tools, Rusted Gears |
| Interior/ground | Basic materials |
↖ Step 4: Lower Power Generation Complex
Inconsistent but worth checking every time. Sometimes packed, sometimes dry — that's normal.
Priority order:
1. Steel Springs (direct)
2. Rusted Tools (1:1 conversion)
3. Cooling Coils
4. Turbo Pumps (scavenge now)
5. Advanced Mechanical Components
6. Metal / Duct Tape / Mechanical Parts
↖ Step 5 (Optional): Hydroponic Dome
Riskier zone. More ARC activity, more contested.
| Situation | Decision |
|---|---|
| Already 20+ effective springs | Extract |
| Low HP/ammo | Skip |
| Quiet area, early spawn | Loot it |
| Hearing gunfire nearby | Rotate out |
Greed kills good runs. If you're sitting on 25-35 springs, extraction beats a hero play every time.
↖ Expected Yield Per Run
| Run Quality | Direct Springs | Conversions | Effective Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bad/contested | 5-10 | 3-6 | 8-16 |
| Average | 10-18 | 5-10 | 15-28 |
| Strong | 18-26 | 8-15 | 26-41 |
| Excellent RNG + Dome | 25+ | 15+ | 40+ |
A run with 15 visible springs on the ground can be a 25+ spring run once conversions land in your safe pocket.
↖ Loadout & Safe Pocket
You don't need a heavy kit for this route. But a few choices help.
| Category | Pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Weapon | Budget, ARC-capable | Breach without interruption |
| Utility | Seeker/anti-ARC | Clear pressure fast |
| Backpack | Medium+ | More room for conversions |
| Perk | Bonus loot on breach | More spring rolls per container |
Safe pocket priority: Steel Springs → Cooling Coils → Turbo Pump (if you can't scavenge it now) → Advanced Mechanical Components → Rusted Tools.
↖ Mistakes That Kill Your Spring Count
Skipping Rusted Tools. Guaranteed conversion value. Pick them up.
Only checking big containers. Green drawers, bus panels, lockers, and shelves carry real weight. Skip them and your run feels random.
Extracting with Turbo Pumps. You lose the 3-spring payout. Scavenge in-raid, always.
Pushing greedy after a good haul. 30+ springs in the bag? Extract. The Dome isn't worth the risk.
Assuming looted rooms are empty. Opened containers ≠ zero value. Scan floors, shelves, and drawer interiors — other players leave more than you think.
↖ Fast Route Checklist
| Step | Location | Move On When... |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Primary Facility / Control Tower | Room fully cleared |
| 2 | Controlled Access Zone | Loop exit reached |
| 3 | Bus Area | All buses checked |
| 4 | Lower Power Generation | Inventory strong or area dry |
| 5 | Hydroponic Dome (optional) | Only if safe |
| 6 | Extract | Don't overstay |
↖ FAQ
↖ What's the best location to farm Steel Springs in ARC Raiders?
Dam Battlegrounds, specifically Primary Facility / Control Tower, Controlled Access Zone, and Power Generation Complex. These zones stack industrial containers, green drawers, and lockers loaded with springs and conversion items.
↖ How many Steel Springs can I get per run?
Normal runs land 15-28 effective springs once conversions count. Strong runs with good container spawns and Turbo Pump scavenging hit 30-40+.
↖ Which items should I prioritize picking up?
Steel Springs, Rusted Tools, Cooling Coils, Turbo Pumps, Spring Cushions, and Advanced Mechanical Components. Rusted Tools alone can carry a huge chunk of your run's total.
↖ Where does the Turbo Pump fit into the strategy?
It's worth 3 Steel Springs, but only if you scavenge it during the raid. Extract with it and recycle later, and you'll get different materials instead.
↖ Is Hydroponic Dome worth the extra risk?
Only if you're already geared and haven't hit a strong spring count yet. If you're sitting on 20+ effective springs, extracting is the smarter call every time.
↖ Summary
Stop chasing direct Steel Spring drops as your only metric. Rusted Tools, Cooling Coils, and Turbo Pumps are your spring count — treat them that way.
Run the loop: Primary Facility → Controlled Access Zone → Bus Area → Power Generation → optional Dome. Loot every drawer, breach every container, scavenge Turbo Pumps in-raid, and extract before things get messy.
A disciplined 10-15 minute run gets you 20+ effective springs with minimal risk. Extracted springs craft attachments. Lost springs craft nothing.
