ARK Cerberax & Gargantar Taming Guide: DLC Requirements, Trials, Feeding

Cerberax needs Fantastic Tames Season 1. Gargantar needs Dragontopia. Confirm you own the right DLC, then follow the matching sequence below.

Cerberax's successful trial can dismount you. Gargantar can demand an item from your inventory. Prepare for both before you start.

Quick Reference

ItemCerberaxGargantar
Required DLC Fantastic Tames Season 1 Dragontopia
Opening move Knock it unconscious Trigger its coating attack and get swallowed
Core challenge Three head trials Give the requested item, then a mounted feeding cycle
Finish Second knockout plus Extraordinary Kibble Complete the feeding cycle
Bring Spare tranquilizers, kibble, escape mount Replaceable gear, shield, mixed nearby resources
Biggest trap Auto-dismount after a trial Requests differ: chitin does not satisfy a keratin request

Both rows come from the official release notes and the community wiki. Start with the DLC check, because it blocks everything else.

Spawn Maps

The official announcement lists Cerberax on The Center, Scorched Earth, Lost Colony, Ragnarok, Extinction, Valguero and Astraeos, and the Genesis maps may also be included. Gargantar is available to Dragontopia owners.

Treat these as map availability, not spawn coordinates. Scout the region and tranquilize only when you are fully stocked.

How to Tame Cerberax

Cerberax is the sixth creature in the paid Fantastic Tames DLC. It is a giant, three-headed mammal, and each head carries its own trial. [2] [4]

Bring: tranquilizer ammo, Extraordinary Kibble, backup armor and a fast mount.

1. Knock it out. The knockout opens the head interactions. Ordinary inventory feeding comes later.

2. Run the hunt trial. Mount through the hunt interaction and kill the marked targets before the timer ends. Ignore unmarked creatures unless they threaten you.

3. Run the dominance trial. Keep the indicator in the moving zone with small corrections. Holding one direction overshoots.

4. Run the feeding trial. Mount through the feeding interaction and answer the bite prompt. Follow the on-screen key, because bindings vary.

5. Knock it out again. Add Extraordinary Kibble. Kibble count scales with level and server settings, so carry extra.

Failure point: a completed trial can end with an automatic dismount. Check the remaining head interactions before you decide the attempt failed.

When to skip it: if you cannot spare repeated tranquilizer runs, wait until you have a stockpile. A late second knockout is the most common reason to lose progress.

How to Tame Gargantar

Gargantar is available to Dragontopia owners. Strip your inventory of anything irreplaceable first, because it may ask for a specific item.

Sequence:

1. Provoke Gargantar until its coating attack hits you.

2. Let it swallow you.

3. Read the item request.

4. Drop the exact requested item inside its stomach.

5. Wait for it to pass out and eject you.

6. Mount it and start the feeding cycle.

Match each request exactly. The mounted selector names the next food or resource. Chitin will not cover keratin.

Stage near variety: trees, stone, metal nodes and several creature types. A request that forces a long flight wastes the timer.

Trade-off: carrying only cheap gear lowers your loss. It does not guarantee a cheap request, so keep a stack of every common tool and weapon you can afford to lose.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

What Kibble does Cerberax need?

Extraordinary Kibble. Finish all three head trials, knock it out again, then add the kibble.

Why does Cerberax throw you off during taming?

A completed trial can dismount you automatically. Check the remaining head interactions before you restart.

Which DLC do I need for each creature?

Cerberax requires Fantastic Tames Season 1, and Gargantar requires Dragontopia. Without the matching DLC you cannot start either tame.

What item must you give Gargantar in its stomach?

The item it requests. The request varies, so remove irreplaceable gear before provoking it.

Which maps have Cerberax?

The official list covers The Center, Scorched Earth, Lost Colony, Ragnarok, Extinction, Valguero and Astraeos, and may include Genesis. Scout for it in person, because the list gives no spawn coordinates.
