ARK: Survival Ascended Bjarnheim Farming Guide: Element, Pearls, Metal & Boss Routes

Bjarnheim looks generous. It isn't. Element sits behind a brutal boss fight, the best metal is buried underwater, and black pearls live next to things that will end your run in three seconds.

ARK: Survival Ascended Bjarnheim Farming Guide: Element, Pearls, Metal & Boss Routes

Here's the good news: once you know the map's logic, none of that matters. This guide skips the fluff and gives you the exact routes, tames, and setups that work.

Resource Cheat Sheet

ResourceBest SpotTame/ToolRisk
Element Dunir boss Rexes, Ferox, Mammoths High
Silica Pearls North Abyssal cave (4.4/93.7) Anglerfish Medium
Black Pearls Abyssal nodes, Tuso kills Strong water tame High
Metal Geyser tunnels Anky + Karkinos High
Chitin Deadlands mantises, cave insects Chainsaw, Mega Medium
Cementing Paste Lake near 56/80 Fast mount Low
Polymer Penguins, mantises Club, chainsaw Medium
Oil Dead whales, oil rocks Pick, mount Low-High
Ambergris Geyser tunnel rocks Pick/mining tame High
Honey/Sap Ironbark Forest Bee, Sap Tap Low
Obsidian Obsidian Cave Anky Medium

Bottom line: stop looking for one perfect base spot. Build specialized routes instead.

Element: Dunir Boss Fight

Element is locked behind Dunir. Start the fight from runestones scattered across the map — decent flexibility on where you commit.

Army options:

Option Why Note
Rexes Reliable tank/DPS Needs strong saddles
Ferox Mobile, hits hard Bring Sweet Veggie Cakes
Mammoths Surprisingly tanky High-armor saddles needed
Dire Bears Fast damage Breeding lines matter

Dunir's thunderstorm hits hard. Raw HP won't save you — bring Sweet Veggie Cakes if running Ferox or herbivores.

Rewards:

  • Gamma: 24 Element
  • Beta: 68 Element
  • Alpha: 178+ Element

Element numbers aren't huge, but each difficulty drops 5 loot crates. Run it for the gear, not just the element.

If your army keeps dying, check these first:

  • Saddle armor too low
  • Breeding lines undercooked
  • No healing support
  • Underestimating storm damage
  • Skipping Beta before Alpha

Treat Beta as your dress rehearsal. Stable Beta = safe Alpha.

Silica Pearls: North Abyssal Cave

Best spot: North Abyssal cave, around 4.4/93.7.

Why it wins:

  • Dense pearl clusters
  • Crystal nearby
  • Lower risk than deep-ocean alternatives

Bring an Anglerfish. Hand-farming pearls works, but only as an early-game stopgap — it's too slow long-term.

Black Pearls: Abyss Nodes vs. Tusoteuthis

Method Yield Risk Best For
Abyssal pearl nodes Very high High Established tribes
Tusoteuthis kills Medium-high High Pearls + keratin combo
Eurypterids Medium Annoying Backup only
Transferred mining tame Very high Medium Cluster players

Tusoteuthis are riskier than pearl nodes, but they double as a keratin source — worth killing if you're already in the water.

Don't dive in blind. Scout with a cheap, expendable water tame first. Bring your real gear once you know the creature density.

Metal: Geyser Tunnel Farming

Bjarnheim has no Dunkleosteus. That means no easy underwater metal harvester — so we improvise.

The setup:

1. Tame 2 Ankylosauruses

2. Get a Karkinos (bottom of the Abyss)

3. Karkinos carries the Ankys into the geyser tunnels

4. Farm the deep metal

5. Karkinos hauls the loot out

This route isn't beginner-friendly, but once running, it's the strongest metal method on the map.

Getting a Karkinos:

Method How Difficulty
Cannon tame Trap + cannon shots Hard, direct
Baby claim Kill parents, grab baby Easier if found

On a cluster? Transfer a prepped carrier instead — saves hours.

Chitin, Keratin & Cementing Paste

Chitin/Keratin:

  • Deadlands mantises (chainsaw) — bonus organic polymer
  • Cave insects (Megatherium) — bulk, low risk
  • Tusoteuthis — pearls + keratin combo

Cementing Paste:

Beaver dams near 56/80 drop roughly 500–600 paste per dam on lower settings.

Rule: empty the whole dam. Take the wood too. Leave it behind and respawns get inconsistent — plus your tribe looks lazy.

Organic Polymer

Method Location Tool
Penguins Glacial lands Club
Mantises Deadlands Chainsaw
Crafted Base Fabricator

Need polymer fast? Penguins. Farming chitin at the same time? Mantises.

Constantly short on polymer? Your crafting pipeline is too dependent on the organic version — build a crafted-polymer backup using obsidian + paste.

Congealed Gas & Ambergris

Both live in the geyser tunnels. Both require prep.

Gas: Drop Gas Collectors on veins. Veins are easy to miss — mark them the first time you find one. Run multiple collectors to cut down on repeat trips.

Ambergris: Comes from luminous rocks near the Abyss edge. Critical if you're raising Magmasaurs. Treat it as a supply run: in, farm, out. This isn't sightseeing territory.

Oil, Honey & Sap

Oil:

  • Dead whales — easiest early source (oil + hide + spoiled meat)
  • Oil rocks — better for bulk, but need underwater protection

Honey: Tame a queen bee in Ironbark Forest. Place the hive at base, harvest regularly.

Sap: Slap Tree Sap Taps on Ironbark redwoods. Low effort, just don't forget to collect.

Obsidian & Gems

Obsidian Cave is your one-stop shop. Bring an Anky.

Gems:

  • Blue — widely available, easy
  • Green/Red — Abyss-locked, need real prep

Not ready for deep Abyss runs? Start with blue gems. Save red/green for when you've got a solid water mount and an escape plan.

Farming Progression Route

Stage Focus
Early Beaver dams, crystal, hide
Mid Polymer, chitin, oil, silica pearls
Late Black pearls, gas, ambergris, metal
Endgame Dunir boss runs

Order that actually works:

1. Beaver dams (56/80) for paste

2. Surface crystal for mushrooms

3. Hunt for hide

4. Penguins/mantises for polymer

5. Tame Anglerfish, farm silica pearls

6. Scout the Abyss with a disposable tame

7. Farm black pearls

8. Get a Karkinos, start metal runs

9. Drop Gas Collectors

10. Build your boss army, push Alpha Dunir

Skipping to endgame zones before your support tames are ready is the #1 way to lose gear on this map.

Best Tames, Ranked

Tame Job
Anglerfish Silica pearls
Ankylosaurus Metal, crystal, obsidian
Karkinos Underwater carrier
Megatherium Chitin
Basilosaurus Ocean safety
Tusoteuthis Deep-sea combat
Rex/Ferox Boss fighting
Bee Honey

Top 5 priority: Anky, Anglerfish, Megatherium, Basilosaurus, Karkinos. That lineup covers most of the map.

Mistakes That Cost You Time

Mistake Fix
No Anglerfish for pearls Tame one first
Abyss diving underprepared Scout with a cheap tame
Weak Dunir saddles Upgrade before Alpha
Looting dams incompletely Take everything
No carrier for metal Anky + Karkinos, always
100% reliant on organic polymer Build a crafted backup

FAQ

What's the best way to farm element on Bjarnheim?

Beat Dunir on Alpha. That's 178+ element, plus 5 loot crates. The crates make it worth running even though the element total is modest.

How do we farm metal without Dunkleosteus?

Bjarnheim has none. Use 2 Ankylosauruses + a Karkinos. The Karkinos carries the Ankys into the geyser tunnels where the real deposits are.

Where's the best silica pearl spot?

North Abyssal cave, around 4.4/93.7. Dense pearls, nearby crystal, lower risk than most deep-water alternatives. Bring an Anglerfish.

What's the best black pearl method?

Abyssal pearl nodes for pure yield. Tusoteuthis if you want pearls plus keratin in one trip — riskier, but efficient.

Where do we get organic polymer?

Penguins in the glacial lands for speed. Mantises in the Deadlands if you want chitin at the same time.

Summary

Bjarnheim rewards planning, not brute force. Start with beaver dams, crystal, and hide, move into silica pearls and Abyss scouting, then commit to black pearls, gas, ambergris, and metal once you're geared up. Save Dunir for last — Alpha is the only difficulty worth the real investment.

Core farming backbone: Anky for mining, Anglerfish for pearls, Megatherium for chitin, Basilosaurus for ocean safety, Karkinos for metal logistics, and a well-saddled army for Dunir. Lock that in, and Bjarnheim stops being a death trap and starts being one of the best farming maps in ARK: Survival Ascended.
