Black Ops 7 Maddox RFB: Best Loadout and Attachment Builds in Season 1 Part 2

Black Ops 7 Maddox RFB: Best Loadout and Attachment Builds in Season 1 Part 2

We have tested a bunch of AR-to-SMG conversions this season, and the Maddox is the one that keeps pulling me back. It moves like an SMG, handles like one, but still keeps that AR-level comfort at mid range. Below is the exact class setup, why each attachment matters, and how to pilot it so it feels unfair in real matches—not just in the firing range.

Maddox SMG Conversion (Gunfighter)

This is the copy-and-go version first, then we'll break down the logic.

Attachment List (8/8)

SlotAttachmentWhat you're buyingTrade-off
Optic Lethal Tool ELO Sight Clean sight picture, fast target reacquisition Costs a slot (can go iron if you're cracked)
Muzzle Red Well 5.56 Compensator Smoother recoil, easier tracking in long sprays Slightly less pure mobility than no muzzle
Barrel Avery Light Barrel Faster ADS + sprint-to-fire, more SMG-like handling Usually gives up some stability vs heavier barrels
Underbarrel EAM Steady 90 Grip Horizontal recoil help + movement buffs Not the best for pure vertical control
Magazine Scarlet Front Fast Mag (30 rd) Faster handling + reload flow, SMG rhythm Smaller mag means you must pick fights smarter
Rear Grip Horse Accuracy Grip Recoil stabilization + horizontal control Less speed grip feel than full mobility grips
Stock Voltaic Light Stock More movement/strafe speed for aggressive entries Slightly less aim-walk accuracy than some stocks
Laser 1MW Instinct Laser Array Faster ADS + sprint-to-fire for true SMG snap Laser visibility risk (depending on BO7 behavior)

Why This Works (And Why It Feels Like an SMG)

The key isn't one magic attachment—it's stacking three performance pillars until the Maddox crosses the SMG threshold: handling, mobility, and spray control.

1) Handling Stack: ADS + Sprint-to-Fire Wins First Bullets

Because you're converting an AR, your biggest enemy is that half-beat delay when you round a corner.

  • Avery Light Barrel + 1MW Instinct Laser push the weapon into snap territory.
  • That means you can slide/shoulder-peek and still shoot on time, instead of feeling like you're dragging an LMG through mud.

If you find yourself dying while your gun is still coming up, this is the exact problem these two attachments solve.

2) Mobility Stack: You Don't Just Shoot Faster—You Arrive Faster

A real SMG class isn't only about ADS speed; it's about how quickly you can take the next fight.

  • EAM Steady 90 Grip (movement bonuses)
  • Voltaic Light Stock (strafe/move speed flavor)

This means you can play tighter routes, hit timings earlier, and force enemies into uncomfortable reactions. If you're the one deciding when the fight starts, you win more fights even with the same aim.

3) Recoil Stack: Calm Gun = Better Tracking + Longer Effective Range

I build these conversions to be super smooth on purpose.

  • Red Well 5.56 Compensator + Horse Accuracy Grip + EAM Steady 90 is basically a recoil insurance policy.
  • Not because the Maddox can't be controlled—because in real matches you're tracking strafing targets, getting shot, and correcting your aim.

This is what makes the setup feel unfair: you get SMG speed, but you can still beam mid lanes when the map demands it.

How I Play This Class (So It Doesn't Feel Like a 30-Round Trap)

A 30-round fast mag is amazing… until you take every fight like you have 50 bullets. The class works best when you rotate through fights with a simple rhythm.

Close Range (0–15m): Enter Like an SMG, Exit Like an Adult

  • Pre-aim less, pre-move more. Your sprint-to-fire is built for this.
  • Commit to 2–3 kills max per mag unless the lobby is feeding you.
  • If you down someone and hear a second set of footsteps, reposition instead of ego-challing the reload.

If you keep dying mid-reload, that's not bad luck—your tempo is too greedy for a 30-rounder.

Mid Range (15–30m): This Is the Maddox Sweet Spot

This is where the build prints value.

  • Use the ELO to stay on target through micro-strafes.
  • Take half-cover fights. Your recoil stack rewards controlled sprays.

Long Range (30m+): Don't Force It—Select It

Yes, you can shoot far. No, you shouldn't take every long duel.

  • If the enemy is head-glitching, close distance using mobility.
  • If you must chall, burst instead of full sending the mag.

Recommended Full Loadout (To Match the SMG Conversion Identity)

This section is about keeping the whole class aligned: fast fights, fast resets, fast re-engages.

CategoryPickWhy it fits the build
Wildcard Gunfighter Required for the 8-attachment conversion
Secondary Velix 57 (your usual build) Reliable cleanup when the 30-round mag runs dry
Field Upgrade Assault Pack + Lucky Ammo Keeps you topped up so you can stay aggressive
Tactical Stim Shots + Performance Boost Lets you chain fights without slowing down
Lethal Semtex + High Density Explosive Multi-kill potential, clears corners fast
Perks Lightweight + Scavenger + Looper Speed + sustain + faster streak flow
Specialty Enforcer Pairs with aggressive pacing and pressure

Smart Variations (Use These If You Notice a Specific Problem)

Here's the practical if this happens, do this set of swaps.

If recoil feels jumpy in sustained sprays

  • Keep the compensator.
  • Consider swapping Stock to a more stability-leaning option (if available in your unlocks).

This means you give up a bit of strafe speed to win more mid-lane beams.

If you keep losing point-blank fights

  • Prioritize sprint-to-fire and ADS (keep barrel + laser).
  • Play tighter routes and stop wide-swinging 2+ angles at once.

Not because your build is wrong—because your entry path is.

If the 30-round mag is holding you back

  • Either slow your chaining (2 kills then reset), or
  • run a larger mag option only if your lobbies consistently stack.

This is a classic trade: more bullets vs. the SMG snap you built the class around.

FAQ

1) Is this actually better than running a true SMG?

In my experience, it's better when you want SMG pace but still want to win mid-range gunfights without swapping weapons. A pure SMG can outgun you up close in some cases, but the Maddox conversion pays you back the moment distance opens up.

2) Why use the ELO optic if it costs a slot?

Because it reduces visual clutter and speeds up target reacquisition in real fights. If your irons are clean and you're comfortable, dropping the optic is a valid optimization.

3) Why not use Rapid Fire?

Because the conversion already walks a fine line: you're stacking mobility and handling, so adding extra kick can break the calm gun identity. If your tracking is elite and you only fight close, Rapid Fire can work—but it becomes less consistent at range.

4) What's the single most important attachment to make it feel like an SMG?

The Avery Light Barrel. That's the identity shift piece: it changes the handling profile so the Maddox stops feeling like a traditional AR.

5) How do I stop dying during reloads with this setup?

Treat the 30-round mag like an SMG mag:

  • take 1–2 fights,
  • reload behind cover,
  • re-enter from a new angle.

If you reload in the open, the build can't save you—nothing can.

Closing

This Maddox SMG conversion is strong because it doesn't gamble on one stat. It stacks handling (ADS + sprint-to-fire), mobility (speed + strafe), and recoil calmness until the weapon becomes easy to drive at any pace. Copy the 8 attachments, respect the 30-round tempo, and you'll get the best version of both worlds: SMG aggression with AR-range comfort.
