Star Citizen 4.10 Cargo Hauling Guide: What Works, What's Still Broken

Cargo hauling in 4.10 PTU finally feels like a job instead of a gamble. Mission cargo spawns correctly now, Pyro multi-stop deliveries count properly, and Stanton runs are stable enough to grind rep on autopilot.

Star Citizen 4.10 Cargo Hauling Guide: What Works, What's Still Broken

The catch: Hull C commodity trading is still a trap. Mission hauling with it works fine. Storing it with cargo attached does not. Here's the breakdown after real runs.

Cargo Hauling: Current State

Feature 4.9 and Earlier 4.10 PTU
Mission cargo spawning Failed per player/server Spawns correctly
Stanton hauling Inconsistent Stable
Pyro hauling Broken since launch Multi-stop works
Multi-location pickup Spawned wrong Splits correctly
Hull C unloading Major blocker Still broken

Bottom line: standard mission hauling is functional. Hull C commodity trading isn't.

Best Starting Strategy

Don't jump into your biggest ship on day one. Build rep small first.

Start in Stanton. Predictable routes, easier stations, less hostility. Grind Red Wind Linehaul contracts early — they unlock interstellar routes.

Stage Contract Size Ship Why
Beginner 6 SCU local Cutter, Titan, C1 Fast validation
Early rep 10–30 SCU C1, Freelancer, Cutlass Black Room without hassle
Mid-tier 25–75 SCU Caterpillar, Taurus, MSR Better payout
Interstellar Stanton → Pyro Caterpillar, C2 Tests route stability
Commodity Large-scaleNot Hull C Unload bug still active

If cargo doesn't spawn, check your pickup location before rage-quitting. Contracts often point to a nearby moon or outpost, not the main landing zone.

Read the contract fully before launching: pickup, drop-off, cargo type, SCU total, single vs. multi-pickup. 4.10 splits cargo across multiple pickups correctly now — don't assume it's all waiting at stop one.

Stanton: What Actually Works

Tested a 6 SCU mission. Cargo spawned at the correct elevator, loaded clean, delivered without issue. Basic, but that's the point — it works now.

Test Point Result
Contract accepted Normal
Cargo in freight elevator Spawned correctly
Manual loading Standard physicalized flow
Delivery elevator Accepted cargo
Rep progression As expected

Ship choice still matters. SCU capacity means nothing if boxes don't clear your ramp or doorway.

Ship Best For Access
Cutter Tiny jobs Easy, cramped
Avenger Titan Small missions Convenient ramp
C1 Spirit Small-medium Excellent daily hauler
Cutlass Black Flexible hauling Good utility
Freelancer Medium Tighter interior
Caterpillar Large missions Strong capacity, slower
C2 Hercules Freight work Excellent access

Bring more ship than the mission needs. You're testing functionality, not solving a packing puzzle.

Hull C: Mission Hauling OK, Trading Still Broken

The Hull C is split-personality right now. Station-to-station mission hauling works. Commodity trading is a landmine.

Mission Flow (Tested: Byxini Point → Ruin Station, Pyro)

1. Accept interstellar mission

2. Travel to pickup, extend spindles

3. Contact cargo ATC (hotkey unreliable — use comms panel if it fails)

4. Enter loading zone, wait for cargo attach

5. Quantum to destination

6. Contact ATC, enter unloading box

7. Complete

Full mission cycle worked. Cargo attached, transported, unloaded correctly.

The Commodity Trading Bug

Because stations sometimes fail to detect a cargo-loaded Hull C, you may get forced to store the ship. Retrieve it and it can spawn in a large hangar with spindles still extended — clipping straight into the floor.

Once that happens, unloading is dead. No clean workaround.

Trigger Result
Station fails to detect cargo-loaded Hull C Services don't work
Ship stored Spindle-extended state persists
Retrieved into hangar Spindles clip floor
Cargo unload Blocked or impossible

If your Hull C retrieves with spindles extended, the run is dead. Don't stack more cargo trying to force it.

Pyro Hauling: Actually Working Now

Pyro cargo has been miserable since launch. 4.10 is the first build where multi-stop missions behave logically.

Tested a 27 SCU junior mission split across two pickups:

Location Cargo Result
Canard View 14 SCU Spawned correctly
Jackson's Swap 13 SCU Spawned correctly
Checkmate (delivery) 27 SCU total Fully counted

Previous builds could dump everything at one pickup, or fail to count the full delivery. This mission counted the whole 27 SCU. That's a real fix, not a placebo patch note.

Pyro Risk Checklist:

Risk Response
FPS drops at stations Restart client before long hauls
Hostile NPCs Minimize EVA time
Piracy Vary routes, don't linger
Multi-stop confusion Track SCU after every pickup

Start Pyro runs at 20–30 SCU. Big enough to confirm cargo logic, small enough that a bugged run doesn't torch your session.

The Actual Workflow

1. Accept a small/medium contract

2. Read every pickup and drop-off point

3. Pick a ship with extra room

4. Fly to the exact pickup — not the nearest city

5. Confirm cargo at the freight elevator

6. Count SCU before departing

7. Multi-stop = expect partial cargo at stop one

8. Deliver everything to the correct elevator

9. Wait for the completion trigger before leaving

Mission Size Best Ships
1–8 SCU Cutter, Titan, Nomad
8–32 SCU C1, Cutlass Black, Freelancer
32–100 SCU Taurus, MSR, Caterpillar
100+ SCU C2, Caterpillar
Station external cargo (missions) Hull C
Commodity trading C2, Caterpillar, Taurus

The C2 is still the best all-rounder for commodity trading — internal bay, no spindle nonsense.

Bugs Still Live in 4.10 PTU

Problem Severity Fix
Hull C station detection High Avoid Hull C trading
Hull C spindle-clip on retrieval High Don't store cargo-loaded Hull C
ATC hotkey inconsistency Medium Use comms panel manually
Pyro station FPS drops Medium Restart before long hauls
Pyro NPC aggression Low-Medium Stay alert
Wrong pickup assumptions Player error Read the contract

Rep vs. Profit Strategy

For reputation: run short Stanton contracts, scale into medium, unlock interstellar, test Pyro small. Skip Hull C entirely.

For profit: use ships that land and unload without detection issues.

Goal Best Pick Skip
Fast rep Small/medium missions Huge routes too early
Reliable completion C1, Cutlass, Caterpillar, C2 Awkward cargo-access ships
Pyro testing Medium cargo, moderate value Full-value risky loads
Commodity trading C2, Caterpillar, Taurus Hull C until fixed
Hull C usage Station-to-station missions only Buy/sell loops

If you were exploiting the old everything spawns at one pickup bug — that's patched. Don't plan around it surviving to live.

FAQ

Is cargo hauling working in Star Citizen 4.10?

Yes. Mission cargo spawns correctly, loads, delivers, and counts toward completion in both Stanton and Pyro tests.

Is Pyro cargo hauling fixed?

Significantly improved. A 27 SCU mission split cleanly across two pickups and counted fully at delivery — a real fix compared to previous Pyro builds.

Does the Hull C work in 4.10?

For station-to-station missions, yes. For commodity trading, no — stations can fail to detect it while loaded, and storing it can lead to spindles clipping the hangar floor on retrieval.

What's the safest ship for hauling right now?

C1 Spirit, Cutlass Black, Freelancer, Caterpillar, Taurus, and C2 Hercules — all internal cargo, no external detection issues.

Why isn't my cargo appearing?

Check your exact pickup location first — contracts often point to a moon or outpost near a major landing zone, not the zone itself. If the location is correct and cargo still doesn't show, it's likely a server or mission bug.

Verdict

4.10 PTU is the first patch in a long time where cargo hauling behaves like it's supposed to. Mission spawning is fixed, Stanton is stable, and Pyro's multi-stop logic finally works.

Hull C is the one exception — great for mission hauling, still a liability for commodity trading. Until the spindle/retrieval bug gets patched, run your big trading loops through a C2, Caterpillar, or Taurus instead.

Grind rep in Stanton, test Pyro at moderate SCU, and treat the Hull C as a mission-only tool for now.
