ZZZ Beginner Guide: How to Play Zenless Zone Zero?

In this ZZZ beginners' guide, we are going to show you everything that is useful about Zenless Zone Zero. It includes basic ideas like what the game is all about; some common words used in the game such as HSR and Genshin for easy understanding; how fights work and what each can do in battles among other things.

What is Zenless Zone Zero (ZZZ)?

Zenless Zone Zero is an ARPG that focuses on combat rather than exploration. Think of it like Punishing: Gray Raven mixed with Honkai Impact 3, but with a lot more end-game content. You can skip the story if you want, but I recommend watching at least one or two fights because they're super smooth.

Zenless Zone Zero Overview

It's got similar daily/weekly/gacha upgrade structure to games like Genshin Impact or Honkai Starfall, but where those games have pretty intuitive UIs (once you know what everything does), ZZZ might take some getting used to. The core loop remains constant - pull units, power them up, farm relics.

Free Stuff

New players get a ton of free stuff in this game - codes for around 150 limited summons / 130 standard summons / 80 bonus through gameplay.

Zenless Zone Zero Freebies Overview

Additionally players can obtain free A-rank agents such as Billy, Nicole, NB, Bear, Kaku, and Lucy just by playing the game; these are also all perfectly usable in every mode of play. So don't sleep on your freebies!

Every agent is viable for gameplay, and investing into lower-ranked units can be beneficial for team building too. Don't commit to high star teams without trying out different combinations first!

Gacha System

Knowing about gacha system helps players make strategic choices while summoning. Here is a breakdown of the gacha system in Zenless Zone Zero:

Summon Type Cost (Polychrome) Rates

Limited Banner 160 1% 5-star engine
Limited Weapon Banner 160 2% 5-star engine
Limited Bumo Banner 80 100% win rate

Gacha System Overview

It's important to note that the Limited Bumo Banner offers a guaranteed win with a 100% win rate, making it a unique feature in Zenless Zone Zero. Additionally, saving Bumo summons for future releases is advisable due to the limited availability of game currency.

Beginner and Standard Banners

Zenless Zone Zero has beginner and standard banners with distinct features as follows:

Beginner Banner Standard Banner
  • 20% discount pull (50 instead of 40)
  • Mileage carries over to the standard banner
  • Guarantees One S-rank agent at 100%
  • Contains both agents and engines in normal pool
  • Mileage refers to the 5-star standard selector upon reaching 300 pulls
  • Do not use monochromes for standard summons

It is suggested that monochromes are not used for standard summons because they are better saved for limited banner units. Players can accumulate standard summons over time through missions and events making them a viable option for free-to-play users.

  1. HP, Attack, Defense, and Damage: These fundamental attributes govern your character's survivability and offensive capabilities. Understanding how they interact is essential for strategic decision-making in combat.
  2. Impact: Impact determines the rate at which you can break the target using "days." The higher the impact, the more days your character will apply with each attack. When the enemy reaches 100% days, they will become stunned or witness broken, leading to increased damage and the ability to trigger coordinated attacks.
  3. Energy Regeneration: This mechanic influences the speed at which your units can charge their skills. It plays a vital role in unleashing powerful abilities during battles.
  4. Assist Points: Assist points are crucial for parrying enemy attacks. When depleted, your ability to parry is limited, and you must resort to dodging. Replenishing assist points requires effective dazing of the target, making it a strategic consideration during combat.
  5. Pen Ratio: Pen ratio affects defense ignore in Zenless Zone Zero. Understanding this mechanic is essential for optimizing your approach to overcoming enemy defenses.
