PoE 2 Trial of Chaos Guide: Basics, Modifiers, Secret Boss and Adorned Jewels

PoE 2 The Trial of Chaos combines swims of mercilessly mindless slaughter with a mxed level of risk to provdide lasting benefit to the player's character. For every successful player, the waves are more sophisticated with every successful clear and grant increasingly more reward for every challenge conquered, They can also choose to cash out whenever it seems right. Upon completing ten waves of the challenge, players gain access to a hidden secret that comes with incredibly powerful items and jewels.

The more many advanced players are able to revisit this challenge during the late game phase to receive a greater difficulty or fetch better rewards.

The Basics

How to Unlock the Trial of Chaos?

  • Unlocking Position: The Trial of Chaos is available in Act 3. Use the Wetlands to get to the Temple of Chaos.
  • Unlocking Repetition in Cruel: The trial is repeatable in the Cruel Act 3 in the Sanctum of Chaos.
  • Use Requirement: You need an Inscribed Ultimatum (item with red face) to start the trial.

Inscribed Ultimatum Overview

Trial Level Number of Challenges Notes
Level 40 4 Trials Early game version
Level 80 10 Trials Endgame version (hardest)

Trial Mechanics

  1. Keystone Usage: To commence the trial, place a Keystone into the duration machine, The difficulty and number of trials are defined by the Keystone.
  2. Trial Structure: Each floor has a challenge (Defeating a certain amount of mobs OR Staying alive for a certain period of time.), and Being able to complete a floor allows for you to go up a floor.
  3. Rewards per Floor: After every floor, you are given a choice of two rewards (A Corrupted Item such as a corrupt piece of armor OR A crafting material known as Soul Core)
  4. Risk vs. Reward: Choose to leave with the awarded items or try for bigger rewards, Going even further increases the difficulty but better rewards will be waiting.

Soul Cores: What You Need to Know?

Soul Cores represent unique pieces of gear that when equipped, enhance attributes of the wielded weapon. Unlike standard runes, Cores replace runes in a gear's slot with a higher level Core.

  • Soul Cores: In order to maximize the farming value of Cores, focus on endgame trials for farming.
  • Example: A desired Soul Core, Calal, grants users a whopping 30% increase in elemental damage, easily placing it in high demand.
  • Market Value: Due to great demand in the game, Soul Cores are rather valuable. In some situations, a highly coveted Soul Core can be sold for up to 43 exalted orbs.

Best Modifiers to Choose

The modifiers in Trial of Chaos are challenges that come with effects – selection of the right ones alters your run for the better or worse.

1. Easiest Modifiers to Select

These types of modifiers are simpler because they consist of ground effects or mechanics that can be avoided through prudent positioning.

Modifier Name Description Why It’s Recommended
Impending Doom Expands a circle on the ground that deals damage upon full expansion. Easy to avoid; leaves a safe zone in the center.
Stormcaller Places runes on the ground that activate after a delay, dealing lightning damage. Runes are avoidable, and lightning damage is manageable with resistance.

2. Upgrade-Friendly Modifiers

Always upgrade these when possible because they are still manageable at higher levels:

  • Impending Doom 2/3: Even with larger circles, it is simple to avoid them due to the safe center spot.
  • Stormcaller (Ranked Up): Larger runes with delayed activation; simple to Dodge.

3. Modifiers That Suit Your Build

Adapt your choices based on the strengths and immunities of your build:

Build Type Recommended Modifier Reason
Freeze Builds Enemies have increased skill speed. Irrelevant since enemies are frozen or one-shot.
Minion Builds Reduced area-of-effect damage. Does not affect minions or their effectiveness.

Modifiers to Avoid

Some modifiers can significantly increase difficulty and should be avoided whenever possible:

Modifier Name Description Why to Avoid
Reduced Resistances Reduces your elemental resistances by a percentage. Increases vulnerability to elemental damage.
Bosses Deal More Damage Bosses gain increased damage output. Can result in unexpected deaths from high burst damage.
Enemies Have More Crit Increases enemies’ critical strike chance. Risky if multiple crits occur simultaneously.

How to Summon the Secret Boss?

To unlock the Secret Boss in the Trial of Chaos, you'll have to gather three Key Ston Parts and finish the 10th floor.

Step 1. Collect the 3 Keystone Parts

The Key Stone Parts are needed for summoning the boss. These are:

  • Victorious Fate
  • Deadly Fate
  • Cowardly Fate

Cowardly Fate Overview

How to Obtain Keystone Parts?

  • Option 1: These KeyStone Parts are dropped by the last boss of normal Trial of Chaos runs.
  • Option 2: You could also buy them from other players using The Exchange.

Keystone Part Exchange Value (Approx.)
Victorious Fate 33 Exalted Orbs
Deadly Fate 95 Exalted Orbs
Cowardly Fate Varies

Step 2. Get ready for the Fight

- Inventory opt: Make sure you have all the three Keystone Parts available in your inventory before heading into the Trial.

- Gear Check: A high quality gear is not mandatory, however, smooth gameplay is guaranteed with at least decent gear equipped.

Step 3. Insert Keystone Parts

Once you have defeated the boss on the 10th floor and acquired your rewards, go to the wall at the end of the floor. To access the Secret Boss you must place the three Keystone Parts in the wall to unlock it.

The Secret Boss: The Trial Master

The Secret Boss has now transformed into The Trial Master, who you already know has been watching you during the Trial of Chaos.

Fight Mechanics

The Trial Master might arguably be the easiest fight out of all of the endgame bosses. Here’s what to expect:

Attack Patterns

  • Directional Attacks: These are very slow and can be evaded with positioning.
  • Summoned Entities: Stepping minions are very predictable and can be avoided or killed with AoE abilities.

Difficulty Comparison

Boss Encounter Difficulty Level Notes
The Trial Master Easy Manageable with basic dodging skills.
Simulacrum Hard Requires advanced mechanics knowledge.
Breachstone (Unupgraded) Moderate Comparable to early Breachstone bosses.
Breachstone (Upgraded) Hard Much harder than The Trial Master.

Adorned Jewels

Adorned Jewels, specifically the Adorned Diamond, are unique drops from the Trial of Chaos Master boss. Their primary function is to increase the effect of jewel socket passive skills for corrupted magic jewels.

The Adorned Diamond Overview

Key Features:

Feature Details
Effect Increases the effect of corrupted magic jewels in passive skill sockets
Range Can roll between 0% and 100% increased effect
Compatibility Works exclusively with corrupted magic jewels

Why Are Adorned Jewels Valuable?

Adorned jewels greatly improves your build if used properly:

  1. Scaling Power: These Adorned Jewels increases the potency of all corrupted magic jewels that are equipped.
  2. Build Customization: Ideal for specific builds, especially those targeting particular jewel modifiers like totom builds or damage elemental scaling.
  3. Market Value: High-effect, high roll Adorned Jewels, 90% effect and above for example, are in demand in trades which makes them highly valuable.

How to Use Adorned Jewels Effectively?

  • Recognize Types of Jewels: Regular exquisite jewels (yellow) get no help from Adorned Jewels, Blue Jewels need to be corrupted to become utilizable magic jewels.
  • Magic Jewels Preparation: Choose a magic jewel with preferred modifiers like totem damage and increased knockback distance, Do not upgrade it to rare; it must remain a magic jewel.
  • Jewel Corruption: Corrupt magic jewels with Vaal Orbs and keep them in standard, Be warned modifying comes at a price. You will lose some of the desired modifiers, so be ready to face the music.
  • Boosting and Equipping: Place the 'dark jewelled magic socket' on the passive skill tree, and let it be corrupted, Put on Adorn Diamond to increase the effect on all corrupted magic jewels.

How to Farm Adorned Jewels?

The only source is Trial of Chaos Master Boss for Adorned Jewels.

Pros and Cons:

Pros Cons
+ Unique endgame reward - Farming can be time-consuming
+ High market value for good rolls - Requires a strong build to defeat boss
+ Significant build enhancement potential - RNG-dependent drop rates

Farming Tips:

  1. Build Preparation: It is recommended that you have an efficient build for the Trial of Chaos content.
  2. Repeat Runs: Adorned Jewels are not easy to get; multiple attempts might be necessary.
  3. Trade Opportunities: High-roll Adorned Jewels you do not need may be traded for treasure or goods, making them very useful.

The Trials of Chaos is interesting to tackle if you are trying to look for some other endgame content to dive into alongside Breachstones or Simulacrum, assuming you have some confidence in dealing with its mechanics and modifiers.
