Windrose Base Building Guide: Best Early Bay Base, POI Clearing Tips, and Weapon Ascension

Bigger base in Windrose is not just about looking good. Once we start clearing pirate camps, mines, wolf dens, and treasure maps, we need a place that helps us move faster: unload loot, craft upgrades, smelt ore, restock potions, and get back out.

Windrose Base Building Guide: Best Early Bay Base, POI Clearing Tips, and Weapon Ascension

For this stage, we are building a practical bay base on the starting island, clearing nearby POIs for XP and loot, and pushing into our first real weapon ascensions. If you feel stuck around level 7 or your fights are getting messy, this guide gives you a clean route forward.

Best Early Base Location: Why Build in a Bay?

A bay base works well because it gives us easy ship access, enough room to expand, and a natural place for docks. We do not need a perfect mega-base right away. We need a base that makes daily gameplay smoother.

Base Area Priority Why It Matters
Dock High Faster ship access and unloading
Storage shed High Keeps loot and materials organized
Smelting area High Turns ore into useful ingots
Crafting shelter High Keeps benches in one easy spot
Bed Medium Rest and reset point
Decorations Low Nice later, not urgent

The dock should come first. After that, build storage. In my own runs, poor storage slows progression more than weak walls do. If you spend two minutes hunting for linen every time you upgrade armor, the base layout is already failing you.

Simple Storage Setup That Actually Works

Windrose throws a lot of materials at us: linen, hardwood, gunpowder, food, weapons, armor, insignias, maps, jewelry, and random pirate junk. Labeling or grouping boxes early saves a lot of frustration.

Storage Box What to Put Inside
Weapons Cutlass, pistols, rapiers, greatswords
Armor Hats, gloves, boots, pants, chest pieces
Crafting Linen, rope, planks, leather, fabric
Metal Ore, ingots, nails, weapon parts
Combat supplies Potions, bandages, bullets, gunpowder
Food Meals, coffee, meat
Valuables Jewelry, maps, insignias, contraband

It does not need to be beautiful yet. It just needs to be clear when we come home overloaded after a POI run.

Gear Checklist Before Clearing POIs

Level 7 is enough for early island clearing, but only if our gear is upgraded. The goal is not to facetank everything. The goal is to survive mistakes while learning enemy patterns.

Gear Slot Good Early Choice Main Benefit
Pants Pikeman pants More max health
Gloves Pikeman gloves More max health
Boots Marksman boots Better movement comfort
Chest Marksman doublet Lower stamina cost for sprinting/dashing
Hat Any upgraded hat Extra armor value
Melee Cutlass / Greatsword Flexible close combat
Ranged Double-barrel pistol Burst damage

Two upgraded Pikeman pieces can add a noticeable health boost. That matters against grenadiers and gunners, where one bad mistake can snowball quickly.

Supplies to Bring

Item Recommended Amount Why
Healing potions 8–12 Main emergency healing
Bandages 10–20 Good between fights
Bullets 30+ Keeps pistol useful
Gunpowder 30+ Backup for ammo crafting
Food 1–2 meals Stat support
Coffee Optional Better stamina comfort
Shovel 1 Treasure maps
Pickaxe 1 Mines and resource spots

Bandages are easy to underestimate. Use them after fights to save stronger potions for real danger.

Best Combat Setup: Cutlass and Pistol

The Cutlass plus pistol combo is one of the strongest early combat loops. The Cutlass can build stacks that boost pistol damage, then the pistol cashes those stacks in for a big burst shot.

Weapon Role Why We Use It
Cutlass Fast melee Builds pressure and pistol damage stacks
Double-barrel pistol Burst damage Deletes dangerous targets
Greatsword Control weapon Better for wolves and grouped enemies

The rhythm is simple:

1. Start with Cutlass attacks.

2. Build damage stacks.

3. Create space with dodge or block.

4. Fire the pistol at a priority target.

5. Return to melee and repeat.

If your pistol feels weak, you are probably firing too early. Build stacks first, then shoot the enemy that actually matters: grenadiers, gunners, or tougher melee units.

Enemy Tips for Early POIs

Different enemies need different answers. The biggest mistake is treating a grenadier like a normal swordsman.

Enemy Main Threat Best Response
Grenadier Bomb damage Keep moving, dodge away
Gunner Ranged pressure Break line of sight, close distance
Sergeant Tanky melee Block, punish, don't overcommit
Wolves Fast lunges Use Greatsword or wide swings
Alpha wolf Heavy damage Fight it alone if possible
Drowned Swarm pressure Keep spacing and avoid corners

Grenadiers are the most dangerous early POI enemy. You cannot reliably block an explosion, so move first and attack after. If you stand still trying to finish a combo, the bomb will usually win that argument.

Best POI Clearing Route on the Starting Island

Before sailing to harder areas, clearing the first island is worth it. We get XP, loot, keys, plans, decorations, and a safer local zone.

Order POI Type Why This Order Works
1 Small pirate camp Easy warm-up
2 Wolf area Good melee practice
3 Medium pirate camp Better XP and loot
4 Mine Materials and combat rewards
5 Remaining POIs Finish island completion

This route ramps difficulty naturally. We test the build, restock if needed, then push into tougher camps.

Loot Priority

Loot Keep? Reason
Keys Always Quest and gate progress
Insignias Always Reputation and vendors
Ingots Always Ascension and crafting
Linen Keep Armor upgrades
Hardwood Keep Weapon upgrades
Gunpowder Keep Ammo supply
Common meat/fat Drop if full Easy to replace
Low-value junk Drop if full Inventory space is better

If your bag fills up, fast travel home and unload. It feels like a detour, but it saves rare materials from being dumped on the ground.

Treasure Maps and Useful Jewelry

Treasure maps are a nice break from camp clearing and can give very useful rewards. We should bring a shovel and some spare inventory space before chasing them.

Reward Example Why It Helps
Coins Silver / money Buying supplies
Jewelry Cutthroat ring, Prospector ring Combat or gathering bonuses
Ingots Ascension materials Weapon and gear upgrades
Extra maps More treasure routes Keeps exploration going

Two early jewelry types are especially useful:

Jewelry Effect Best Use
Minor Cutthroat Ring More critical damage Combat build
Minor Prospector Ring Less stamina used while gathering Wood, ore, resource farming

If you are farming hardwood, wear the Prospector Ring. If you are clearing camps, swap to combat jewelry. Small optimizations like this add up.

Weapon Ascension: What to Upgrade First

Weapon ascension is a major power spike because it adds special effects, not just more damage. The best first choices are usually the Greatsword and Double-barrel pistol.

Weapon Ascension Effect Priority Why
Greatsword Perfect block can restore health High Better survival
Double-barrel pistol Applies Vulnerability High Boosts follow-up damage
Cutlass Lower attack stamina cost Medium Good, but less impactful
Animal damage weapon Bonus vs animals Low Too situational

The pistol's Vulnerability effect is especially strong because it increases damage taken by the target. That means your follow-up attacks hit harder too.

The Greatsword ascension is great if you block well. Restoring health from perfect blocks rewards cleaner play and helps during longer fights.

Materials to Farm Next

After the first island clear, we usually need materials for upgrades and ascension.

Material Used For Best Tip
Linen Armor upgrades Keep it crafting constantly
Hardwood Weapon upgrades Do dedicated wood runs
Ingots Ascension Clear mines and treasure spots
Healing herbs Potions Farm shoreline enemies
Gunpowder Ammo Loot pirate camps
Planks Base and dock building Process wood often

If your gear stalls at level 9 or 10, check the exact material you are missing and farm that directly. Random exploring is fun, but targeted farming fixes upgrade bottlenecks faster.

FAQ

What should I build first in a new Windrose base?

Build the dock first, then storage, then crafting and smelting areas. A good dock and clean storage make every trip easier.

Is level 7 enough to clear starting island POIs?

Yes, but upgrade your gear first. Armor around level 8–10, enough healing, and a reliable melee/ranged setup make a big difference.

What is the best early combat combo?

The Cutlass and double-barrel pistol combo is excellent. Use Cutlass hits to build damage, then fire the pistol for a strong burst shot.

How do I deal with grenadiers?

Keep moving. Do not try to block bombs. Dodge away when they throw, then punish after the explosion.

Should I use the Greatsword or Cutlass?

Use the Cutlass for fast combat and pistol synergy. Use the Greatsword for wolves, groups, and safer defensive fights.

What weapon should I ascend first?

Ascend the Double-barrel pistol or Greatsword first. The pistol adds damage utility through Vulnerability, while the Greatsword improves survivability.

Are treasure maps worth doing early?

Yes. They can reward coins, jewelry, ingots, and extra maps. They are especially useful when you need ascension materials.

What jewelry should I keep?

Keep both combat and utility jewelry. A critical damage ring helps in fights, while a gathering stamina ring is great for farming resources.

Summary

A strong Windrose midgame starts with a base that works. Build near a bay, set up a dock, organize storage, and keep crafting and smelting close together. Once the base supports your runs, clearing POIs becomes much smoother.

For combat, use the Cutlass and pistol combo for burst damage, keep the Greatsword ready for wolves and grouped enemies, and bring more healing than you think you need. After collecting enough ingots, ascend the pistol or Greatsword first for a real power jump.

If you are stuck, follow the loop: improve storage, farm the missing material, upgrade gear, clear POIs, then ascend weapons. That rhythm keeps progress steady without turning every fight into a desperate potion-drinking contest.
