Windrose Bleed Build Guide: Best Early-Mid Game Rapier Setup

Windrose bleed builds are strong because they let us win fights without standing still. We tag the target, stack bleed, dodge out, and let damage-over-time finish the job.

This setup is cheap, reliable, and built for early-to-mid game progression. No endgame grind required. The core is simple: Rapier of a Thousand Cuts + Epic Drake's Double-Barrel Pistol + Precision scaling.

This is the clean version. Chase these pieces first.

SlotBest PickWhy It Matters
Main WeaponRapier of a Thousand Cuts Applies stacking bleed
SecondaryEpic Drake's Double-Barrel Pistol Applies Vulnerability
Armor2 Privateer + 2 Pikeman Crit chance + survivability
Stamina Option2 Privateer + 2 Filibuster Better dodge uptime
NecklaceNecklace of Precision Boosts bleed scaling
RingCutthroat Ring More crit damage
Main StatsPrecision / Mastery / Vitality / Endurance Damage, crit, HP, stamina

The build works before it is perfect. The only major breakpoint is upgrading Drake's Double-Barrel Pistol to Epic.

Core Weapons: Rapier Bleed + Pistol Vulnerability

The build lives or dies by two effects: Bleed and Vulnerability.

Rapier of a Thousand Cuts

Rapier of a Thousand Cuts applies bleed on damage. It stacks up to 5 times.

Bleed StacksDamage per Second
125 DPS
250 DPS
375 DPS
4100 DPS
5125 DPS

At full stacks, we get 125 DPS before Precision scaling.

That is why this weapon feels so good early. We do not need to keep face-tanking. We can land hits, dodge, and let the enemy bleed.

Important: the rapier does not need to be ascended for the build to work. Ascending it later improves scaling and gives better value, but it is not the first priority.

Drake's Double-Barrel Pistol

Drake's Double-Barrel Pistol becomes build-defining at Epic rarity.

At Epic, it applies Vulnerability:

  • Target takes 15% increased damage
  • Works on melee damage
  • Works on bleed ticks
  • Works with other damage buffs

This is the main reason we shoot first.

The pistol is not here to carry damage. It is here to make every rapier hit and every bleed tick hit harder.

Where to Farm the Bleed Build Gear

Windrose loot is not clean target-farm friendly. We route by zones and POIs.

ItemWhere to LookNotes
Rapier of a Thousand Cuts Coastal Jungle / Foothills POIs Random loot
Drake's Double-Barrel Pistol Coastal Jungle / Foothills chests Upgrade to Epic
Tumbaga Ingots Trial Circle Ruins / dungeon POIs Needed for pistol ascension
Privateer Armor Tortuga vendor / crafting Crit setup
Pikeman Armor Tortuga smuggler/vendor / crafting Safer setup
Filibuster Armor Tortuga market vendor / crafting Stamina setup
Precision Necklace Trial Circle Ruins / Blackbeard Stashes Key scaling piece
Cutthroat Ring Trial Circle Ruins / Blackbeard Stashes Crit damage

If one player in your group finds a key weapon, they can drop it for others. Pick it up, unlock the blueprint, craft your own. This saves a lot of wasted chest-hopping.

Best Armor for Windrose Bleed Build

Armor depends on what is killing you.

Default Armor Setup

Use:

  • 2-piece Privateer
  • 2-piece Pikeman

This gives:

  • +10% critical hit chance
  • +160 HP

That is the best default mix. More crits help damage. More HP gives bleed time to finish enemies.

Stamina Variant

If you are constantly winded, swap Pikeman for Filibuster.

ProblemUse ThisResult
Dying too fastPikeman More HP
Running out of staminaFilibuster More dodges
Damage feels lowPrivateer More crit pressure

Do not tunnel-vision damage. A bleed build needs uptime. If you cannot dodge, you cannot stack bleed safely.

Best Jewelry and Stats

Jewelry fixes stat pressure. The goal is to hit strong Precision value without wasting too many raw points.

Jewelry

SlotItemReason
NecklaceNecklace of Precision Boosts bleed and pierce scaling
RingCutthroat Ring Increases critical damage

Early on, rare jewelry is enough. Later, Epic jewelry lets us move points out of Precision and into survival or stamina.

Stat Priority

StatPriorityWhy
Precision Highest Scales bleed damage
Mastery High More crit chance
Vitality Medium More HP
Endurance Medium More stamina control

Practical spread:

  • Put around 5 points into Precision, then use Necklace of Precision to boost it.
  • Put 5–10 points into Mastery for better crit consistency.
  • Add Vitality if you are getting bursted.
  • Add Endurance if you keep running out of stamina.

If you are dying, stop adding damage. Add HP or stamina. Dead pirates do zero DPS. Very tragic. Very avoidable.

Best Talents for the Bleed Rapier Build

Pick talents that support rapier damage, passive pistol reload, and crit pressure.

TalentPriorityValue
Deep Impact High +Pierce damage
Surgical Cuts High More crit chance
Quick Strikes High More one-handed damage
Planning Ahead Medium Faster passive pistol reload
Executioner's Grace Later Healing after kills
Bull's-Eye Optional Better headshot opener

Recommended Talent Order

1. Deep Impact

2. Surgical Cuts

3. Quick Strikes

4. Planning Ahead

5. Executioner's Grace

6. Bull's-Eye

Planning Ahead is better than it sounds. The pistol reloads while stowed, so we can shoot, swap to rapier, fight, and have Drake's ready again.

Best Elixirs and Food

Use consumables when fighting bosses, elites, or dense camps.

ConsumableEffectBest Use
Elixir of Cruelty+8% all damage Best general pick
Elixir of Firm Hand+13% melee damage Strong rapier boost
Elixir of Concentration+30% crit damage Best if crit chance is high
Vitality Food More HP Safer fights
Endurance Food More stamina More dodges and combos
Mastery Food More crit chance More burst

Best default: Elixir of Cruelty.

It boosts all damage, including bleed. Simple. Efficient. No spreadsheet required.

Combat Loop: How to Play the Bleed Build

This is the full loop:

1. Open with Drake's Double-Barrel Pistol

2. Apply Vulnerability

3. Swap to Rapier of a Thousand Cuts

4. Land 2–5 rapier hits

5. Dodge or block

6. Reapply pressure or move to another enemy

Short version:

Shoot → Stab → Stab → Dodge → Stab → Heavy → Reposition

Do not greed for five hits every time. Most enemies will punish that.

Better pattern:

  • Shoot once.
  • Land two rapier hits.
  • Dodge.
  • Land another hit or heavy.
  • Back off while bleed ticks.

If the enemy staggers, push for full stacks. If not, play safe. The damage is already working.

Upgrade Priority

Do not waste rare materials randomly. Upgrade by breakpoint.

UpgradePriorityReason
Drake's Pistol to Epic Highest Unlocks Vulnerability
Level Rapier High Main damage source
Ascend Rapier Medium Better scaling and sustain
Upgrade Jewelry Medium Better stat efficiency
Upgrade Armor Medium More comfort and survival

The first real power spike is Epic Drake's Double-Barrel Pistol.

You need 7 Tumbaga Ingots. Farm dungeon POIs, especially Trial Circle Ruins. They are limited early, then become easier to find later.

Ammo and Gunpowder Tips

Use better bullets when possible.

AmmoUse?Notes
Stone Bullets Backup only Lower damage
Copper Bullets Yes Good early option
Iron Bullets Yes Better opener damage

Stone bullets still apply utility, but they cut damage. Use them only when supplies are tight.

For gunpowder, check pirate camps in the Coastal Jungle. Supply bales can contain gunpowder and may respawn after clearing the POI.

If resources are low, save pistol shots for elites and dangerous targets. Normal enemies can die to rapier bleed alone.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Strengths

StrengthWhy It Matters
Strong early-mid game Does not need endgame gear
Easy loop Low execution barrier
Great vs living enemies Bleed performs well
Scales with Precision Gets better while leveling
Flexible armor Can build for HP or stamina

Weaknesses

WeaknessFix
Bad vs bleed-resistant enemies Use direct damage or backup weapon
Uses bullets and gunpowder Save shots for priority targets
Needs Epic Drake's pistol Farm Tumbaga Ingots early
Punishes low stamina Run Filibuster or Endurance food

The main problem is enemy type.

Bleed is strong against living enemies. It is much weaker against undead, drowned, and some Zone 3 enemies. If bleed barely moves their health bar, stop forcing it. Use direct damage or switch setups.

FAQ

What is the best weapon for a Windrose bleed build?

Rapier of a Thousand Cuts. It applies stacking bleed, up to 5 stacks for 125 DPS before Precision scaling and damage modifiers.

Do we need to ascend Rapier of a Thousand Cuts?

No. The build works without ascension. Ascend it later for better scaling and extra value. Prioritize Epic Drake's Double-Barrel Pistol first.

Why is Drake's Double-Barrel Pistol required?

At Epic rarity, it applies Vulnerability, making the target take 15% more damage. This boosts rapier hits and bleed ticks.

What stats should we level first?

Prioritize Precision, then Mastery. Add Vitality if you die too fast. Add Endurance if stamina keeps running out.

Is this build good in Zone 3?

Partly. It still works against living enemies, but many Zone 3 enemies resist bleed. Keep a backup damage option for undead, drowned, and resistant creatures.
