ESO Significant Changes: New Subclassing and Features | 2025

The Elder Scrolls Online is poised to make major shifts in 2025 with new methods of content delivery and other promising features. This guide dives into the 2025 Significant Changes focusing on ESO subclassing systems, the content pass, and other features.

Content Pass

The ESO 2025 roadmap outlines subclassing to be introduced with a new comprehensive content pass. The content pass is set at $49.99 USD and includes all content for the year, eliminating the need for an ESO chapter and DLC purchases in/over the years.

ESO 2025 New Content Pass Overview

The Pass Includes:

  • Quarter 1 and 3 Dungeon Packs
  • Quarter 2 and 4 Story DLCs
  • Full access to Writhing Wall event

Studio director Matt Firor explains this as a one year transitional period. While Plus Members continue to receive dungeons in new zones, access to those zones requires the content pass. Firor also claims Plus subscribers are being considered for additional perks.

New Zone and Event

The new zone, Solstice Island, is cut in two by the wall of souls. The western half will be available with Update 46 in June while the eastern part will unlock in Q4. The storyline proceeds the main one with the Worm Cult and boasts of returning characters. There is a prologue quest unlocked on live servers to start the journey.

ESO 2025 New Zone and Event

The Writhing Wall event is planned to be ESO's largest server event to date featuring a like never seen before scale of player driven real-time camp building, siege planning, and attack repelling. This event varies from mega server to mega server allowing different platforms to experience unique variants of the event. Game Director Rich Lambert calls attention to its scale and community building possibilities.

Ossein Cage Trial

Rich says payers can expect the new 12 person Ossein Cage Trial in Cold Harbor along with June's content drop. This trial has players storm a vault and obliterate a relic prized by Molag Bal's Dra. Unlike regular reward filled content, this one is said to focus on dynamic multi-boss fights and wholly new gameplay mechanics. Each release seems to be more exciting than the last thanks to the creative development team.

Subclassing Details

Subclassing is set to revolutionize gameplay by enabling players to swap skill lines across different classes.

  • Launch Date: June 2025
  • Availability: Free for all players; DLC classes require purchase for their skill lines.

Mechanics:

  • Eligibility: Unlocked at level 50 for all characters.
  • Skill Lines: Players can integrate skill lines from other classes if they have previously leveled them to 50 on the original class.
  • Account-wide Progression: Once a skill line is leveled, it is accessible to all characters on the account.
  • Full Access: Includes both active abilities and passives without any nerfs.

Rules of Subclassing:

  • Rule #1: You must always have at least 1skill line from your original class
  • Rule #2: You can't take 2 subclass skill lines from the same class
  • Rule #3: Each subclass skill will take 2 skill points instead of 1
  • Rule #4: Class sets and scribing class masteries will still be limited to the primary class

Combinatorial Possibilities:

  • Unique Combinations per Class: 55
  • Shared Combinations Across Classes: 405
  • Total Combinations per Class: 460
  • Grand Total of Unique Combinations: 790
  • Including Class Sets and Masteries: 3,220 unique class combinations

Rich Lambert assures that while he doesn't expect power levels to rise much, the emphasis will continue to be placed on enjoyment and creativity without needless nerfs.

Other Misc Features

Apart from class sub-division, a number of other features are also set to be added.

  • The Welcome Back Feature: This attempts to help older players return. It's a quest-based approach designed specifically to meet different needs to help them return effectively.
  • Modernized UI For PC: Work is being done to bring the PC interface up to date with current design trends.
  • Siridil Performance Testing: After successful testing, further updates are scheduled to be released in Update 46.

Test Servers for Update 46 go live on the 14th of April, giving everyone a chance to see these improvements ahead of time.

The newly proposed subclassing system offers revolutionary new approaches to gameplay as it allows for unparalleled customization. Given that there are now over 3220 possible unique combinations, players can work with many different strategic setups. These along with the UI upgrades and windows features aimed at refreshing inactive accounts, the changes are bound to elevate the experience greatly.
